Beast Master Conclave

The Beast Master archetype embodies a friendship between the civilized races and the beasts of the world. United in focus, beast and ranger work as one to fight the monstrous foes that threaten civilization and the wilderness alike. Emulating the Beast Master archetype means committing yourself to this ideal, working in partnership with an animal as its companion and friend.

Ranger's Companion

Beast tamer

At 3rd level, you are a master in knowing how to handle sidekicks with the beast type. This beast companion accompanies you on your adventures and is trained to fight alongside you. Upon picking this subclass, you gain the know-how to not just tame a as your companion, but to have it work for you with exceptional skill. You roll any skill check with advantage when trying to tame a wild beast. Once you have succeeded enough times, the creature won't be hostile towards you.

If you spend a week taming the beast, it won't be hostile towards any creature, unless given a reason to.

Favourd Companion

At the end of a long rest, you can designate a beast with average loyalty to you as your favored companion, doing so grants it the following bonuses:

  • You can choose to have the companion take its turn on your initiative.
  • Add your proficiency bonus to the beast's AC, attack rolls, and damage rolls, as well as to any saving throws and skills it is proficient in.
  • Its hit point maximum equals its normal maximum or four times your ranger level, whichever is higher.
  • You have advantage on any skill check when handling difficult circumstances and commanding your beast in combat.
    • If your companion has a loyalty of 14, automatically succeed on those skill checks instead.
  • You can choose to grant your beast companion one of these trainings.
    • War trained. TheCompanion will not try to avoid combat, and can be commanded to take the attack action.
    • Distracter. The Companion will stay at your side to defend you. It will use its reaction to impose disadvantage on an attack roll for a creature within 5 feet of it when targeting you, provided the companion can see the attacker.
    • Zapper. The Companion can be commanded to take the disengage action, and do so using its bonus action.
    • Asister.
Consult the Pet and Companion Rules to see the full extent of what you can do with your companion.

Comand the beast

On your turn, you can verbally command the beast where to move (no action required by you). You can use your action to verbally command it to take the Attack, Dash, Disengage, or Help action. If you don't issue a command, the beast takes the Dodge action. Once you have the Extra Attack feature, you can make one weapon attack yourself when you command the beast to take the Attack action.

If you are incapacitated or absent, the beast acts on its own, focusing on protecting you and itself. The beast never requires your command to use its reaction, such as when making an opportunity attack.

If the beast dies, you can obtain another one by spending 8 hours magically bonding with another beast that isn't hostile to you, either the same type of beast as before or a different one.
