Dorion

The largest of the Free Cities, the city of Dorion is a place where every sailors have been at the very least once, if not multiple times.

Demographics

The majority of Dorians are Human and this is reflected in their upper classes and wealthier professions. However, one can find groups of any race within the city given the large number of ships coming in and out of port every day. Similarly, the sailors of Dorion are the most diverse professions when it comes to race, though few sailors stay in the city for long periods.

Defences

The city's primary defenses are the tall walls surrounding the old parts of town as well as the Bluestone Ramparts. The Ramparts are a set of towers jutting out of the sea that is both heavily warded and bristling with engines ready to shoot down incoming warships making the city nigh impossible to take by sea.

Infrastructure

The most well-known building in Dorion would be the enormous port and the light tower known as Sailors Greeting that lies near it. There are also the many shipyards on which the city prides itself. There is after all no better ship than a Dorion-built ship.

Districts

There are many districts within Dorion but the most important ones are the Docks, East Gate, Low End, Smallwood, the Bowl, and Wind Ford. The Docks are obviously where the largest of the ports reside and where most of the shipyards find themselves, making it an incredibly important district. East Gate was named so for being the part of the city where the Golden Road meets it. This means that most travelers by land will first enter the city in this district which has made many markets spring up in the area. Low End and Smallwood are both commoner districts with the least amount of wealth, but the greatest amount of people, while the Bowl holds most of the highborn and great merchants. Lastly, there is Wind Ford which offers both people of the middle class as well as most sailors that temporarily reside in the city.

Points of interest

The main points of interest would be the Blue Palace where the Basileus live, Sailors Greeting, the large light tower that guides ships, and the University of Creation where the finest conjurers in Joia have been taught and teach.

Architecture

The city has a strange adoration for the color blue, resulting in it being greatly incorporated into buildings and tapestry alike.

Geography

The city is located in a large wetland, making it hard for enemy armies to invade by land, which was also the reason they first started sailing. It is also located at the end of a narrow fjord making it similarly hard to invade by sea, but making travel into the city easy given the currents and wind.
