Xinmorn Paralysis

Xinmorn paralysis is a mysterious ailment that affects some Xinmorn (Xin) users. Xin is a very popular stimulant type drug which requires no processing other than growing the Xinmorn plant. It is often ground up for easy use in food, drink, or pipes. This stimulant makes its users faster, stronger, and more clear minded. Many people use it in their day to day lives to enhance their abilities in their work. There is no clear evidence regarding who will experience this condition, but only creatures who ingest or smoke Xinmorn have ever been affected. This paralysis can range from just one finger or toe being immobilized to a person's entire body shutting down leading to inability to eat or drink and eventually death. Many people believe that wrapping Xin in the leaves from the Fairberry Bush will stop this condition from occurring while still giving the benefits of Xin, but this is not certain. There has been no cure found for this condition.

Transmission & Vectors

This condition is not transmittable.

Causes

Smoking or ingesting any part of the Xinmorn plant. However - the majority of people can do Xin for a lifetime without experiencing paralysis. There is no known connection or trigger for the paralysis and what type of people/animals it affects.

Symptoms

Sudden and permanent paralysis of any portion of the body.

Treatment

No known treatments have been found.

Prognosis

Prognosis is dependent on how much of the body is paralyzed at onset.

Sequela

Once someone has Xinmorn Paralysis, they are at much higher risk for subsequent and more widespread paralysis if they continue to use Xin.

Prevention

The only known prevention is to not partake in any Xin activities. Some say wrapping the Xin in Fairberry Bush leaves prior to smoking, steeping, or ingesting can prevent paralysis, but there is no clear data to support this. People looking to make a quick buck often tout "miracle treatments" which never end up being an actual treatment.

Epidemiology

Xin is a very popular stimulant type drug which requires no processing other than growing the Xinmorn plant. It is often ground up for easy use in food, drink, or pipes. This stimulant makes its users faster, stronger, and more clear minded. Many people use it in their day to day lives to enhance their abilities in their work. Many people use it recreationally. Animals will eat Xinmorn plants if allowed. Xin is not illegal, and its use is encouraged more often than not.

History

Xin has been used in the community for generations, and is a major part of the economy. The first recorded case of paralysis was over 500 years ago. As the drug is such a prevalent part of society, much research has been done in search of a cure or prevention for this condition without success.

Cultural Reception

With low level paralysis, some people choose to stop using Xin to avoid further expansion of the condition. Unfortunately, in a many parts of the world abstaining from Xin is seen as a weakness and these people will suffer some ostracization. Those with money and more complete paralysis are often sent to facilities where they are kept alive with artificial nutrition and hydration to extend their lives in hopes of a cure. Anyone who is not wealthy will not receive any artificial nutrition measures, and there is a market for mercenaries to provide "euthanasia" to shorten the suffering for a small amount of money or items (ironically they often take the patient's remaining Xin as payment).
