The Blade of the Heavens

If there was a ranked list of the most historical weapons in Jade's history, The Blade of the Heavens would be in the top 10. It is a blade made of radiant light, with mithril and silver originating from the Solara star. In the Eras of Darkness and Twilight, the Solara Star alone has contributed to the construction of some of the most famous armors and weapons over the past few centuries. Other than the Blade of the Heavens, fragments of Solara have created things such as the bastard sword "Solaris," the rapier "Galiavae," the glaive "Dawn," the arrows "Heaven's Rain," and the breastplate of Warden Julian Pearce. These items are usually consistent in terms of magical power; the weapons and armors are imbued with radiant energy, allowing most weapon users the ability to smite targets while the armors defend the wearer against supernatural evil. The Blade of the Heavens, specifically does extra radiant damage with every attack and then the blade has the unique property of adapting to the style and use of wielder. The blade also adjusts its own length to the comfort of the user, thus has been depicted in history as various sizes and styles. Very few have ever been able to unlock its final ability though, which is the ability to see into the memories of a dying soul and decide of what path the soul will take; whether to send the soul to the heavens or to the Nine Hells. Above all else, this weapon is a glowing light in history's darkest days and has been a symbol of hope to the world of men.

The The Blade of the Heavens has become one of the few swords in last few centuries to have a story of its own, as it has seen a long list of wielders and obstacles. Below are a few notable users of the Blade of the Heavens:

-King Reginald, Ruler of light-
During the Era of Darkness, Prince Reginald was one of the leading allies of the Warriors of Twilight. the Arenthian prince and the Warriors of Twilight were all "Shard-wielders" and knights dedicated to defeating the Queen of Darkness and returning sunlight to a blackened sky. Prince Reginald in his youth had fallen in love with an Old Goddess whom he married. Their marriage granted him the power of light to balance her dark, twisted nature. As their love made their powers stronger than they could possibly imagine, the Prince's wife became hungry for more and shrouded the entire world in "Forever Night" and proclaimed herself Queen of Jade and Night. Soon after, Reginald found himself facing against the Old Goddess of Darkness alongside a group of adventurers that faced the threat with weapons that were made to destroy spirit folk. While the Ruler of Light had many reservations of destroying his wife, the prince, now a king, was given a weapon from the Nine Saints that could "cut the darkness" and bind the Goddess's spirit until he could one day undo the corruption. This weapon appeared as a Longsword. When the battle was over, all of the weapons of twilight were hidden away with the exception of King Reginald's. He gave it the name, "The Blade of the Heavens." Passing it on later, as a reward, to one of his faithful knights.

-Ser Rodrick Layne-
50 years after the death of King Reginald, Ser Rodrick Layne, a knight of the holy order of the Sovereign, was the wielder of the Blade of the Heavens. He used the blade to defeat the vampire threat of Count Amrich Von Vandlehoff. Rodrick dealt the killing blow to Vandlehoff but did not survive his injuries in the battle. The blade was removed from his body and gifted to another knight. The Blade appeared as a Greatsword for Ser Layne.

-Ser Valin Harrison-
Ser Harrison was a knight of Atmorra. He served in three wars and lucked upon the Blade of the Heavens on the battlefield in a conflict with Arenthia. Harrison was unaware of the blade's significance and design, but lusted for its power. After the Atmorran-Arenthian Conflict, Harrison took the sword home and used it against his personal enemies. For Harrison, the blade was a shortsword. With its holy magic, the Blade of the Heavens was used to murder everyone that stood in the way of him and the throne of Atmorra. This angered the Nine Saints and they turned the weapon's power against him. As he walked the halls of Atmorra's capital, he was haunted by the terror and pain of those he had killed. He was King of Atmorra for only a year before the voices drove him to madness. From atop his tower, Ser Valin Harrison, the cursed king of Atmorra, stood at the edge and plunged the sword into his heart. His body fell over 80 feet, although he had died before he hit the ground. Scholars deemed the blade to be cursed and banished it from the hold, after being unable to destroy it. The sword took the form of a black dagger called "The Dire Dirk." For the next 150 years, the cursed blade would attempt to turn all those who would hold it to suicide, darkening it till the end of days.

-Venmae Calihorn-
Venmae Calihorn was a member of the Diamond Chasers Adventuring Guild, who were assisting the Harper League in their quest to unravel the secrets of Arden-Sil, when she and the guild discovered a very powerful, hundred-year old dagger called the Dire Dirk. The Dirk came with a book of victims that listed over 70 names and methods of suicide. The Dirk already had attempted to kill one of the Diamond Chasers. However, Venmae had attempted to do the one thing that no one had ever done. She saw her colleague's suffering and embraced it for herself. She was willing to sacrifice her own life to protect another; for this, the Nine Saints smiled. Venmae Calihorn was given the ability to witness all of the spirits of the Dirk's victims. With this sight, she could try to convince the spirits to not kill themselves over and over again. Doing so cleansed the blade of the bloodshed. Overtime, she did this. By the time the Diamond Chasers came face to face with Arden-Sil, The Dire Dirk was purified. In a blast of glowing light, the Blade of the Heavens was seen again by mortal eyes. For Calihorn, the blade was in the length of a dagger. She is one of the few users to unlock the blade's full potential. When Venmae had originally died to Ellaria Or'Gash, the blade was bequeathed to her lover, Penelope Davneiros the Warden of Teratha and Lady of Harrenhall. Penelope returned the weapon to Venmae when the Aegis Dawn brought her back to life, almost half a year later. It became a Shortsword as Venmae married the Warden Penelope in secret and swore to her cause. At the time of her second death, Lady Venmae Calihorn-Davneiros of Harrenhall sacrificed herself to protect Jonathan (her and Penny's son) and his pregnant wife, Jane, from a skirmish with the evil Gith Empire. In her dying breath, she gave her sword to Jonathan.

-Warden Penelope Davneiros-
It is hard to believe that a weapon as powerful and as righteous would be used by so few Wardens. However, Penelope and her son, Jonathan, would be the only Wardens to ever wield The Blade of the Heavens. After her beloved Venmae died at the hands of agents from the Crystal League, Penelope Davneiros vowed for vengeance. Under normal circumstances, Penelope, like her ancestors, would be equipped with Solaris, the Blade of Harrenhall, but in history Solaris has exploded when misused for reasons other than protecting the world. As Penelope didn't want to follow in her father's mistake, she equipped The Blade of the Heavens alongside the Rosethorn blade. The Blade of the Heavens was a Greatsword for her. Together, the two swords helped bring many agents of the Crystal League to justice. She would only have been carrying it for a short time, as Venmae was soon returned to the world by the Aegis Dawn.

-Warden Jonathan Davneiros-
Warden Jonathan Davneiros took hold of the Blade of the Heavens during the Gith Occupation of Jade. His personal resistance cell, The Crows, was gathering other resistance cells from all over the world at the time. Venmae Calihorn-Davneiros was the leader of a cell called "The Ravens." The cells were gathering in the Dwarven stronghold of Kaer Dur-Rhen when the Gith attacked the concentration of freedom fighters. During the attack, Venmae was killed while protecting the Warden's pregnant wife. Taking hold of the Blade of the Heavens, the sword became a rapier for Jonathan. While he rarely used it, the blade became a symbol of hope alongside Solaris, the Warden's preferred blade. Jane had vowed to name her child after her protector, while Jonathan vowed to bestow the Blade of the Heavens to the child, should she ever need it.

-Queen Venmae Davneiros-
Venmae Davneiros was named after Lady Calihorn as her mother had vowed. In her early adulthood, Venmae grew up wanting to be a protector of the people like her parents. She wanted to slay monsters and stop the forces of evil from consuming Jade. Unfortunately for her, The Order of the Wardens was disbanded in the "Humanity's Strength Act" that was passed by the Lord's Alliance in the days after the Occupation. The Act placed indirect blame on the Warden's for the occupation of Jade, as it was the failure of the four wardens to defend against the threat. The ongoing belief was that it was time the people of Jade to take charge of their own safety and to either learn how to face these threats themselves or invest in the talents of adventurers to handle the problems. Venmae was distraught by this, and thus replaced her dream of being a warden with being an adventurer. She joined the guild known as "The Hand of the Warden." As she left home, her father gave her, not Solaris the family blade, but The Blade of the Heavens. The Blade grew to Longsword length in her hands. This quickly became her preferred weapon. As the guild quested on and confronted a new great threat to the world of Jade, it was discovered that the source of the Davneiros power was not in the ancient curses of the Nine Hells but rather in the blood of ancient kings. As her ancestors had done the Oath of the Warden, they had inadvertently thrown away a secret inheritance: the ability to sit on the throne of Arenthia. With the Wardens disbanded, Venmae had never taken the Oath, making her the only one of her family to sit on the throne after Arenthia's long twenty years without a leader. She took her sword with her as she ascended the throne and then immediately carried it into battle in The Battle of Ashford. For the first time in just over a thousand years, the Blade of the Heavens was the weapon of choice for the Throne of Arenthia, inspiring hope across the kingdom.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

No mechanical parts. Blade is blessed by the Nine Saints.

Manufacturing process

While the exact date and process are unknown to historians, The Blade of the Heavens was supposedly gifted to the King of Arenthia during the Era of Darkness to help lead his people through the "Forever Night," by the Nine Saints themselves. Religious Scholars suggest the The Builder forged the blade in the heavens with his own hammer. This weapon has been confirmed to be crafted by magic, making it a Spell-forged weapon.

Raw materials & Components
The entire weapon is made of Star-metal and is spell-forged, meaning few tools were used in it's construction and is the product of powerful magic. The blade itself appears to be made from a mithril-silver alloy, an alloy found from the Solara Star. A metallurgical scan (done as a test of the USS Odyssey's scanners) showed a small, thin Adamantine rod ran down the fuller of the blade to maintain structural integrity. The crossguard of the sword is mostly made of Electrum with platinum linings. In the center of the guard, a magic stone sits in a diamond shape; this crystal transforms into a gemstone or precious metal that represents the current user that has attuned with it. The grip is mithril at the core and bound and wrapped with a soft, yet very durable, leather of an unknown creature. The core of the pommel is made of Electrum, but the rest is depended on the current shape found there. Based on whatever god (preferably one of the Nine Saints) the user believes in, the holy symbol of that god sprouts from the center of the pommel.
Tools
There is no indication of tool marks on any part of the blade, guard, handle, or pommel.
