Re-birth Syndrome

Re-Birth Syndrome is a mostly mental illness that affects a subsection of people who have been brought back to life after death. Throughout Jade, there are many magics and ways to return life to people who have die, the bulk of which are through divine magic and divine intervention. In some cases however, there are alternative ways of bringing people back to life beyond the decision of a deity. If not by the grace of god, people and creatures can begin to see the onset of a madness known as "Re-Birth Syndrome." Re-Birth Syndrome affects nearly everyone who isnt brought back to life by "healthy and natural" ways. Its main symptoms are varying degrees of madness, dementia, and mania. However, it is also considered to be a genetic enhancement, as many patients exhibit heightened mental and physical capabilities at the cost of the madness. Those who are considering "passing as normal" often hide their affliction to stay out of the crosshairs of discrimination and being stereotyped. It is entirely possible with therapy and medication to become a high functioning member of society while suffering from Re-Birth Syndrome. The most popular recent character with this affliction is Remalia Haventree, who had died in her mother's womb and was brought back to life by a Necromancer.

Causes

Re-Birth Syndrome is most commonly found when people and creatures are revived and brought back to life without their consent, the consent of a divine power, or by unconventional means. It can also be caused by extensive genetic engineering and manipulation, especially if done with magic.

Symptoms

There are many symptoms for this syndrome that almost any flaw can be attributed to it. Here are several of the most common Symptoms:

  • Uncontrolled Emotions
  • Panic and Anxiety
  • Dementia
  • Mania
  • Common Madness
  • Depression
  • Aggressive Tendencies
  • Hallucinations

Treatment

There is no known cure; medical, arcane, or divine. The Syndrome is listed as a "divine abomination" and represents ressurections condemned by higher powers. In some cases, afflicted people can go through extensive therapy and rehabilitation to learn to live with the affliction, to become "normal." However, many patients find themselves dislocated from their homes and put up in dedicated hospitals and care centers for the ailment.

Prognosis

Condition is not fatal. Many with Re-Birth Syndrome find themselves with heightened Mental Abilites or physical abilities at the expense of their sanity. Without the proper therapy or experimental treatments, many patients eventually succumb to the disease and become permanently mad and often described as "feral."

Affected Groups

Only affects some people who have been brought back to life.

Prevention

Only method of prevention is to either not ressurect the person in question when they die, or take the body to a temple or church for ressurection.

History

There is no official records as to the first case of Re-Birth Syndrome. The earliest reports come from folktale from the Morian Isles; A group of Vikings were slain by an evil witch on the Island of Cecily. The Witch had revived them, brought them back to life with her dark magics and enslaved them. The longer the Vikings lived with this new life, the more mad they became. They eventually became feral and cannibalistic; killing and eating each other and even butchering the witch. In the story, the Witch had a song she sang when she revived them that had the lyrics, "Rise, o'rise! Return to your mortal vessels! Rise, o'rise! Embrace your re-birth! Rise my slaves!"

Since then, Re-Birth Syndrome is the name given to the madness brought about post-ressurection, usually associated with abnormal spellcasting conditions or dark and sinsister intent. It is because of Re-Birth Syndrome and other similiar diseases that many do not condone the act of ressurection and raising of the dead, beyond any spiritual or moral reasons.

Cultural Reception

Suffering from Re-Birth Syndrome is considered taboo in its own right, across the globe. Many consider the victims of the disease to be unnatural and freaks of nature. Some even consider them an affront to their religious beliefs. Many who suffer are forcibly put into asylums where they get little help and are kept there to stay away from the general population. The few who can pass as "normal" often keep their past a secret as to not to bring unwanted attention.
