House Davneiros

"The last few centuries have been tumultuous; a storm cloud has hung over Jade, keeping us frightened for might come next. But at the end of it all, a Crow has watched over us every time and been there to weather the malestrom and keep us safe, reminding us that there is still some hope, some glimmer of light, to hold on to." -Ser Gareth Corrath, Knight of Atmorra and Paladin of the Nine Saints

Jade has hundreds of noble houses, both minor and major, but none that quite compare to the fame and significance of House Davneiros. Compared to many houses, the Davneiros Clan is a fairly new family. The House was officially named as Noble in the year 1255 by Atmorran King Julliard Templeton, but the members of House Davneiros say the name was created by its founder Rixan Davneiros long before then, quoting the founder's birth (1207) as the creation of the House. Considering that Atmorran Law does recognize "first declarations" and "first bloods" as legal "Founding Points" for Noble Houses, both 1207 and 1255 are recognized as legal foundation years. Rixan Davneiros did not claim noble birth; he was officially declared a bastard and an orphan by the government of Arenthia, where he was found. The family that raised him was too poor to even have their own last names. As Rixan grew older, he created the last name "Davneiros" so he could fill out paperwork and officially begin his life as an adventurer. Later in his middle age, Rixan would be invited to replace House Stormharbor as Wardens of Teratha. In the process of accepting the role, Rixan's made up family name was then consecrated as Noble Household under the laws of Atmorra. Per tradition, Arenthia also accepted the Davneiros as nobility in their own archives, since Arenthia recognizes the promotion of all of their citizens regardless of the country in which the promotion took place. However, both countries marked the Davneiros family as "minor" nobles in their records, minimizing any influence they could have in their governments.

Since becoming Wardens, House Davneiros has called the island of Harrenhall their home, which has long before them been the traditional home of each Warden of Teratha. As such, Harrenhall was not only the family home, but also a base of operations for Warden duties and for head of House Davnerios, an inherited title for the Third Order of Wardens. They would maintain their patrol of the continent of Teratha, only occasionally crossing continental lines to eliminate enemies that threatened Jade as a whole. Every new generation of House Davneiros accepted this role and responsibility, training since a young age to become one of Jade's ultimate heroes. This trend continued for almost two centuries until Jade was invaded by the Mind Flayer Imperium and their armies of Gith. During this invasion, most of the Wardens of Jade were killed and their homes destroyed. Jonathan Davneiros, the last Third Order Warden was able to escape Harrenhall before it crumbled into the Sea. As Jade's last remaining Warden in the reconstruction time after the Gith were pushed back, Jonathan helped a group of adventurers create the Fourth Order Wardens of Jade, however he continued his duties as a Warden until his death. After the Gith were defeated, Arenthia struggled following the deaths of the royal family. The country's magical crown could only be worn by people of the royal bloodline. In their search for alternatives of who could wear the crown, Rixan Davneiros was discovered to be the bastard of a king of Arenthia. Jonathan's daughter Venmae was asked to ascend to the throne and to set aside her inherited Warden title. She reluctedly accepted and became the first Davneiros to sit a royal throne, now Queen of Arenthia.

House Davneiros's official home is still Harrenhall, despite its destruction. Despite ascending to the status of "Royal," Matriarch Venmae Davneiros has had little to no deviation with House's coat of arms, only occasionally adding a gold border around the coat of arms. Normally, the house's banner is a Blue banner with a Silver stripe down the middle. The House icon, a Crow, is in the center and is either holding a clutch of white roses or has blooming white roses in the top right and bottom left corners. James Davneiros had a custom variant of the House Banner that had the crow in flight, wearing a floral crown of white roses, and clutching the family sword, Solarus, still in its scabbard.

Structure

This noble house is structured via the standards found in both Arenthia and Atmorra. The house is led by a matriarch/patriarch, whom is the oldest living bloodline family member (spouses do not inherit Household leadership). Property ownership is determined internally, to be freely determined by the House Leadership as they see fit as legally allowed in Arenthia and Atmorra. In House Davneiros, the Leadership has often allowed family members full control of their personally owned properties with no oversight or familial burdens. For the bulk of their history, the head of the household has also been the Warden of Teratha, one of four wardens that make up the Third Order of the Wardens of Jade. The head of the household was prohibited by code to own any property outside of their Wardenholds.

Up until the coronation of Venmae Davneiros to the throne of Arenthia and despite their titles as Wardens of Jade, House Davneiros had been primarily categorized as a "Minor Noble House" in Atmorra. They spent most of their lives on the Island Castle of Harrenhall, until it was destroyed by the Gith Invasion. Now, House Davneiros has been reorganized as the Royal Family of Arenthia after the Githyanki had purged Castle Starpoint of House Arenthi, the long ruling house of Arenthia. House Davneiros's connection to the throne comes from the discovery that the founder of House Davneiros, Rixan Davneiros, was in fact the bastard child of a King of Arenthia and a Queen of the Dale. While Atmorran and Arenthian familial codes have very little differences, becoming an Arenthian Royal House has meant the family now has to have all family agreements and properties clearly documented and handled with care.

It is also an unspoken acceptance that the household has reliquished their obligations as Wardens of Teratha. With the formation of the Fourth Order of the Wardens of Jade, this has been an easy transition.

Culture

Every member of the Davneiros family has been known to be a "gentle soul, but with the heart of a warrior." Living on the jagged rock that describes Harrenhall, the children of the household are humbled and forced to learn how to live tough. Every child in the household is taught to fight, how to swim, how to read and write more than one language, and often taught how to sail. Also every Household member has learned to play a musical instrument, whether forced or voluntary, and is proficient in some sort of craft's tools. Markus Davneiros, son of Rixan, was keen to present the Wardens as a "family of knights." Changing from Rixan's afficiando with a bow to a family of accomplished swordsmen, with all the chivarly and code that one would expect from a knight. While the strictness of that code had mostly died out by the time of Jonathan and Venmae Davneiros, the attributes of that "hero mentality" has remained.

Public Agenda

House Davneiros, even before and after their time as Wardens, has always been a house of diplomacy with the desire to do good and help people. Many say their kind hearted nature must be hereditary. House Davneiros has always taken it upon themselves to be a shining light in the dark for all of the people of Jade.

Assets

A majority of House Davneiros's assets were held in Harrenhall until the island exploded during the Gith Invasion. During the reconstruction time, post invasion, the leaders of the continent of Eratha agreed to grant House Davneiros a small estate on the outskirts of the Arenthian village of Ashford, which Jonathan had a small house built and the land used as a vineyard. House Davneiros has retained this property to this day, with Jonathan's son Trayston building a larger manor on the property as well as a workshop.

With Venmae Davneiros now Queen of Arenthia, the majority of the family's assets are now linked to the property of the Royal Court and the Crown Inheritance.
