Narrative Passages:
Turning himself in after The Battle of the Flood
"The flooding had stopped but a chill wind still blew across the hills. An enormous, lonely hound
howled somewhere out of eyesight, and Orgon knew then the Pale King would have him in days. His life
was over, and whatever was left was simply a narrowing descent into a black tomb. No one was waiting
for him there. All gods had failed him.
First, the Family Above when they let his beautiful wife die, and leave him, a wreck of a man, to
raise his sons. And now Annam, All-Father, who had been his strength through the darkest days, who
had restored order to a world that made no sense, had failed take even a town as tiny as Shorn. An army
of ogres ripped apart by men his size. This was no Ordning, this was no wisdom. No plan. It was simply
death. Death of beauty then death of strength. Death was everywhere and he took what he wanted.
Why fight? Why not knock on his doors to darkness and drag yourself inside?
Orgon looked east where the heaviest clouds remained. Without food, without cloak or staff,
without even shoes on his feet, he began walking step by step from his farm to the noose that awaited
him with his people."
