The Chronicles of the Itharia: Session Fifty-nine
General Summary
Rhy quietly left Tholly's room in the middle of the night and not so quietly returned to the room she and Lee shared, tripping over his boots left randomly on the floor.
Ranrus had another nightmare. This time the spirit managed to assault his body through the dream leaving Ranrus exhausted. Unable to convince him to kill, the spirit seemed to simply make the dwarves explode into bloody viscera.
The next day, in the morning, Theren and Rhy went to see Thiblewip and teach her cantrips. Despite that this is simply not how wizards magic worked she managed to learn the cantrip Theren was trying to teach her and was decently on her way to cast frost bite, the spell Rhy tried teaching her.
Ranrus used the enchanted amber he retrieved from the forge in The Murder Mansion to enhance/aid his casting of identify, breaking through the fog to identify it perfectly. Discovering the nature of the Broken Blade he went to find Lee, and explain the weapons nature. Lee had come to a well rounded understanding of the ship and had taken to helping the crew where he could and found himself in good standing with many of the crew. When Ranrus arrived he explained the luck bending nature of the blade. Lee asked for way they might look for other pieces of the blade, intrigued at the idea of bringing it back together. Ranrus knew that the nature of the blade reforged would most likely be different then what he identified.
The party gathered on deck enjoyed the view when Gronco and Tholly approached, checking in and inviting them all to dinner. Tholly was obviously acting strangely to Rhy but it was not obvious as to what exactly the cause or intent of the behavior was. Theren and Rhy told Tholly they had taught Thiblewip a new cantrip and upon realizing the goblins unique wizarding trait, requested Theren draw his cantrips similarly to how they had drawn theirs and Rhy's.
Tholly went to the helm and the others spread about relaxing on the last day on the ship. Rhy eventually approached Tholly at the helm. He asked her if she was ok, and after she thought he meant her burning being something wrong he clarified to the nature of her leaving and apologizing for hurting him. He made clear that he had entered into it consensually and aware. He wanted to be clear that she had nothing to be ashamed of and that their was nothing wrong with her. Upon realizing she was from Krata things became much more clear to him and he insisted she had to be ok with herself as there was nothing wrong with her. The two parted smiling.
Before dinner, Theren met Tholly in his chamber and began drawing out his cantrips.
Ranrus found Rhy before dinner and discussed with her the results of his commune, sharing with her that he had received sentences as answers not words, and that he was told that he followed his gods will and if that made him an interloper so be it. Rhy revealed why she wanted to go to Aullen grove and Grarrl's concern for him bringing another god to the plane.
At dinner the party sat close to Tholly blocking Cassiopeia from her clearly usual spot. She somewhat glared at Rhy for taking her spot and aggressively flaunted, taking her succubus form and repeatedly invading Theren's personal space. The party discussed their journey. Tholly offered to take them wherever they wanted in future and the party offered to potentially help him with his standing with the guild of Izret. He mentioned they could visit via his teleportation circle. The party grew excited at the realization, resulting in Tholly and Theren showing of the blink spell and inadvertently fell out of the ship. Tholly return them to the ship and on their return he asked Theren if they wanted to sleep with Cassiopeia. He explained they could be and should direct but also very clear, as Cassiopeia was very fast moving.
They both returned to dinner and discussion returned to seeing the circle and other contents of the vault after dinner.
Tholly after dinner took the party to the vault where they found the remains of a devil, their bones used as a key to plane shifting to the nine hells. The vault was full of gold and jewels, held the ships teleportation circle, and had two bottomless chests. One containing arrays of random simple and common magic items as well as some rarer pieces. Lee sneakily retrieve a velvet bag form one chest before triggering its uique trait of closing with a heavy closing noise no matter how carefully and slowly it was closed. Tholly showed the party the contents of the second chest which wile similar contained far less and seem more personal in nature.
After etching the teleportation circle Theren went to find Cassiopeia and after a brief exchange the two went to her bedroom very quickly and faded to black.
Lee asked to speak to Tholly privately and Rhy and Ranrus went up to the deck to watch the ship enter into the harbor. Lee asked if he knew a way to communicate with dragons, upon being given a name he knew a very effective way to reach out to Saransina and prepared a collection of material to be burned to aid to connecting to her via dreams. Upon learning he new of Sarinsina, Lee asked further and learned Tholly had been taught about dragon by someone familiar with the three outsider dragons and he proceed to explain loosely their presence on the plane. When Caleroh was mentioned he was not surprised at the likely hood he may of imprisoned Saransina considering Caleroh was researching interplanar travel, and lee explained she had a hand in creating the dragon gates, used for interplanar travel. He was surpised to hear Maranth was involved, exclaiming that he thought that must mean all the months of the year were named after dragons.
The party, minus Theren, were on deck as the ship entered the Bay Of Lights and docked. Realizing it was late and finding rooms might be hard the party stayed on board. Rhy spent the night with Tholly again, this time staying till morning.
Lee and Ranrus stayed in the same room, Lee hoping Ranrus would notice if his sleep experiment went wrong.
It went seemingly perfect and he connected with the same strange space he had before with Saransina. He spoke with her about how she'd noticed changes to the world and if she had found her friends. She had not but caran could be bellow ground and Yenter was likely somewhere in the wilds. He also asked if she minded teaching him as they seemed to have similar views on knowledge sharing and over all aligned views. She agreed and somehow change lee with just a touch.
Ranrus once again delved into his nightmare, realizing this spirt was truly evil. The spirit showed Ranrus his friend and asked who they would murder. Ranrus fought him again and even threated to destroy the armor. Ranrus called the spirits actions towards him torment. The spirit corrected Ranrus, saying all he wanted was to help Ranrus kill people. Ranrus escaped relatively unfettered and the spirit challenged him to destroy the armor so they could both see what happens.
The next morning the party saw Theren arrive disheveled and the group decided where to head to and in a round of conversation discovered the The Investigationem Bibliotheca met all their needs. The party got directions though they were encouraged to visit the library at the Temple of Ioun if they wanted real knowledge and information.
Upon reaching the The Investigationem Bibliotheca( which was massive and beautiful but truly a building of barely organized chaos) they metMeron the Blasphemer Kamin, the man Grarrl was studying under. Grarrl was overwhelmed at Rhy and the parties arrival. He took Lee, Rhy, and Ranrus to an area to interview, discuss, and teach as needed. Theren went in search of book to teach them about dragons, guided by Meron.
Grarrl challenged Ranrus on the nature of him being a cleric and found him convincing enough. He explained his research and beliefs about Aullen Grove. He believed that the founders came from another plane, brining with them their household god. Their god was able to perform miracles unlike common gods like The Six who most noted historical miracle was coming together to stop a war between their followers for a mere six seconds. He believes that the "gods" smited Aullen Grove and all who lived there for their worship of Fynn, or maybe for Fynn's presence leaving Aullen Grove permanently changed, maybe disconnected from the devine, a thought that was reinforced when Rhy mentioned she lost connection with Sasnia while in Aullen Grove. Grarrl main theory is that the gods at some point in the past abandoned Ithica for some unknown reason. He has found a single text, which is far from reliable, that the gods once had physical avatars on the plane.
Theren read in books collected for them by Meron that the theory of the months being named after dragons best argument is the strange nature of colors associated with months. They did find some mention of Yenter in text describing first hand encounter with dragons. Yenter was described as restoring destroyed areas of the wilds and that they had drawn a lot of attention from Ooglings. Theren asked Meron about his music and discovered he was very skilled violaist. Meron asked if they had anything more specific to look for as dragons was a very broad subject. He also expressed his belief the dragons didn't go anywhere and that their presence being so noticeable during the war was because of the war not in spite of it. An armored individual ran into the small reading area, introducing themselves as Hizeru Kaminari, Animata Novella Paladin. They were ecstatic and surprised about a small book revealing of a character being evil the whole time. Meron sent him to retrieve "Flag" who Hizeru claimed had been stalking Kip, a representative from the Church of the Buried Feather who kept tabs on the researchers and library.
Meron checked in on Grarrl and the rest of the party and challenged Ranrus to prove he was a cleric and that his god was real. unimpressed by thaumaturgy Meron displayed the difference between his bardic magic, and his cleric magic as a cleric of music. Ranrus in turn showed greater force of his own cleric magic and while the spell failed Meron seemed surprised. He summoned Hizeru once more, who showed off their own paladin abilities, and intense and vibrant spell filled with passion, faith, and emotion. Ranrus was happy at the sight of it. Meron confused, ordered Grarrl to send Ranrus to be interviewed by him after Grarrl was finished.
