Chronicle of Fates: Session 2, Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman
General Summary
The Realm Walkers and Ysir started a dialogue with Silence. They quickly learnt she was angry because she had sense Hummel when they killed him, before he passed to Vecna’s plane. Learning even the Patriarch was outside her reach she gave the party an ultimatum, get her hummel soul by some means, or she would destroy the House of the Realms. She left.
The party met a group of protectors and Runenar, who after confirming there wasn’t any continuing threat to the cities piece directed the party to the Magician’s hat where they might be able to buy diamonds to resurrect Hummel with.
In the shop the party met a grey-haired woman protected by some sort abjurative illusion. She sold them diamonds, a scrying board, and a tuning fork. She also offered them the Blue Goblet for either a large sum of money or ingredient they could get from Silence’s body and wings.
Leaving there they met with Gil and eventually Elyana and began negotiations around Branches Journal. The party learnt Yua had directed her to the tomb, which had everything, but the journal stolen already, including Branches body. Ysir and Lee were able to scan the text and confirmed its value.
The Realm Walkers agreed to trade the right to tell their story in exchange for the Journal.
Full Recap
The Realm Walkers and Ysir stood in the street next to the Tower of Eg faced with Silence. Rhy and Ranrus, who were not stunned averted their eyes from her face. They started talking with Silence to figure out what was going on. Silence made it clear the issue was around Hummel. She had searched their other homes and there were no more “pieces”. Hummel was with Vecna now. Rhy managed to convince her that they didn’t know anything about his soul being in the Dark Mound Mansion.
Silence demanded their assistance in finding Hummels father. Ranrus remembered that the Patriarch was victim of the incinerate spell and so his soul no longer existed. Ranrus told Silence as much. She believed him but she was simmering with anger. Silence was fighting to control herself a two red started to form to her sides.
Lee considered the chance that with the things happening around Vecna on Ithica that Hummel could be brought back to life, though that potential was small. Lee passed this possibility on to Silence.
Silence flew over to Lee, looming over him. “Can’t you bring him back?” Lee could not but pointed to Ranrus as the option. Silence shifted to looming over him. Ranrus explained he was capable but was missing required resources. As silence anger built, the cracks grew and Rhy could sense that there was another pane on the other side. Rhy started to slowly move over to them. The cracks seemed to grow and shrink as the discussion between Lee, Ranrus, and Silence flowed back and forth from hopeful to realistic. The crack final y became true tears, leading to the Nine Hells.
Silence explained she deserved vengeance. She told the party that she had spared the Mansion, the place she was tortured, because she would get revenge on her torturers. If she couldn’t get that revenge that she would raise the mansion instead. She gave the Realm Walkers a week to get her Hummel soul in some fashion, or their home would be destroyed. With the agreement made the tears closed. Silence spoke to a group standing behind Lee, Ysir, and Ranrus. She apologized for disturbing the peace disappeared.
Behind the group were four uniformed individual humanoids and 4 varying sized constructs. A Gnome woman seemed to take the lead in questioning the party. Rhy gave quick explanation which the Gnome seemed to believe. She, the other humanoids, and the constructs started tending to the stunned pedestrians.
The party quickly adapted and decided buying a capable diamond was the higher priority. Rhy asked the guard, learning they referred to themselves as “Protectors”, about where they could buy expensive spell components. She suggested The Magicians Hat of Gilbert’s Emporium, the two store on the adjacent corners.
Rhy realized these protectors were Runenar, the law enforcement and protectors of Iter. They were very rare; the humanoids were paired with a Titular Runenar. The constructs were slowly going extinct as the means of their creation had been lost to time.
The party entered the Magician’s hat where a Goblin and Drow were conversing large brassier of fire. Unable to proceed, they ask eth other how to purchase things. The goblin explained “she” would get what they needed and would bring it to them, the party assumed there was some sort of psychic element.
The door at the south of the room opened and the party saw a grey-haired woman with a magically obscured face. As the party misinterpreted her over and over as different ancestries. She had them come in. I the second room was a similar brazier, a strange glowing cube and a terrarium.
Rhy went to inspect the cube and was magically lost in it. The rest of the party started negotiating for diamonds and she agreed to sell them three diamonds for their resurrection and 600 gold worth of diamond dust. The woman free Rhy from her trance and reach into the cube producing two magic items. The first was a plank with paper and a writing utensil on a string. She said it would help with their ear cuff issue. The second was a blue goblet. The third in the set Lord Varse had given as wedding gifts. She explained the goblet allowed one to revitalize themselves. The plank was 250 gold pieces, and the goblet was 250000 gold pieces.
The party wasn’t particularly interested in the Blue Goblet but might trade it for some of Silence’s feathers and pieces of her “armor”.
She didn’t have any of whatever Ysir was looking for, but there was likely some in the city. He politely nodded at her.
Lorelei asked about tuning forks attuned to interesting planes. The woman offered a variety of forks all seemingly connect to places of carnal pleasure like a tuning fork for the sixth layer of hell to visit the Library of Succubi.
Rhy was looking for interesting material planes. She gave her a wet tuning fork for 100 gold. It led to somewhere mostly underwater. She seemed to have two flavours of plane, violence or pleasure.
Ysir suggested they go looking for the Trendisimo’s. Before they left, Ranrus asked about Devil eyes, and the woman suggested using silence or her tears.
They started looking for the bar and sent to Gil who came to collect them. They had a strange back and forth when Gill called them creeps for spying on his super-hot sister.
The party got to the bar and sat down with Gil and Elyana. On the way they noticed several signs of Gil inverting things. Elyana’s bodyguard was nowhere to be seen.
Rhy started in on the Journal immediately. Rhy called it Branches journal and Gil through Elyana under the cart. Attempts to convince the party otherwise failed. Elyana refused to give up the journal without anything less than an exact copy.
They continued discussing and negotiating. They learnt that branches tomb had been raided. The journal was the only thing left in it when Elyana found it. Elyana still wrote in the tomb. This made the party concerned thinking she wrote next to a dead body. She rea explained the journal was the only thing left in the tomb.
Lee and Ysir requested to look at the journal. Elyana allowed them and the two used their specialized reading abilities to learn as much as they could in a short time. Gil used some interesting language that led Lee to think Gil knew Ysir’s connection to Dor.
Ysir sped read the pages before saying he thought it should be returned to the tomb or to Branches allies. Elyana was confused noting the journal was heavily focused (at least the section Ysir had seemingly skimmed) was about brown, white speckled turkeys from the northern region. Ysir, unable to read the words on the page, instead just understanding their intended meaning, was aided by Lee, pointing out where the mentions of turkey were so he could try to bluff. Gil was barely containing his laughter at the scene unfolding in front of him.
Elyana explained she was trying to find Branches, something his allies did not appear to be doing. Ysir now with his hand on top of the book made clear he had no intent of giving it back if the Realm Walkers didn’t want him too. Gil got excited hearing this as he was clearly trying to escalate the situation, whether that was towards violence was unclear.
The party asked how she found the tomb and after some preening from Gil she explained, Yua had told Gil who told her, enticing specifically with “that place has stories that need to be told” which Elyana thought the nature of it being raided and the body being missing included. Elyana did not believe Branches had been resurrected. He had died of natural causes so it would take a very powerful necromancer to raise him.
Rhy suggested compensating her for the potential 25 books worth remaining in the journal. Elyana counter offered with exclusive right to the dramatic retelling of their lives. The negotiation resulted in a verbal agreement, that she could not start writing until they had retired (based on their potential immortal lives) that would get one review of the completed volume don with her present, she had final say and the Realm Walkers had on non-negotiable veto per volume that if it went unused carried over and accumulated for future volumes.
Elyana would have a contract written up. Ysir skimmed the book one last time looking for mention of the library. He seemed to find something of value. As he slid the book back across gill reached out and touched Ysir hand and whispered something. After he finished there was a pause before Ysir leaned in and loud enough for everyone to hear said, “Sorry, that doesn’t work on me.”
