School of the Red Hand
“You don’t mean that School of the Red Hand, do you? They’re up in the mountains, at the abandoned temple. I’ve never seen anyone come back down from there.” — a local bartender, describing the School.
Purpose / Function
The School of the Red Hand is the home of Kildare the Red Hand and an academy to teach mages who wanted to become Huntsman. Huntsman can summon spirits or contracted familiars while using firearms, and learning this art requires intense mastery of both blacksmithing and gunsmithing.
The Red Hand currently resides at the temple with the Forgekeeper, Rosella.
Alterations
After the Red Hand took up residence at the temple, he added both a forge and a shooting range to the complex. The original living quarters, shrines, and courtyards still remain intact.
Architecture
The complex itself has a forge for Huntsmen, along with living quarters and a shooting range. Its architecture as a temple is still evident, with the old shrines still intact. Students at the school took turns to clean and maintain the individual shrines.
History
The School of the Red Hand was once just a temple at the center of the island, home to a monastic order. After some centuries, and as the Church of the Many and the None grew in popularity, the order disbanded and the temple fell into ruin.
The Red Hand moved into the temple a few years before the Brothers' War. The School taught dozens of pupils in Huntsmen magic, but was closed unexpectedly after 15 years of operating.
