Pariah's Keep

"Pariah's Keep is thought to be haunted, but who can say for sure? It's a place none wish to speak of."   — a historian on the rumors surrounding the Forgotten Valley.

Purpose / Function

Pariah's Keep is an ancient fortress that sits in the middle of the Forgotten Valley. Once thought to be an elvish fortress, Pariah's Keep earned its name when the Coalition took up residence there after the disastrous attempt at laying siege to Tregaron. The Keep was the Coalition's main base of operations for a decade, and home to hundreds of soldiers, mages, and political advisors over the years.

Alterations

Priah's Keep was a ruin for centuries before the Coalition settled in. The Coalition's men renovated much of the structure, clearing away rubble and growth to make room for the army.

Architecture

The Keep is a massive fortress, built to outlast sieges and be a defensible position for whomever controls it. Its location in the Forgotten Valley makes it a remote and far-flung landmark, and for centuries it was largely forgotten and only really thought of as a ruin.

History

The Keep itself was an enormous fortress, which had sank into disrepair and became a ruin long before the Brothers' War. It was thought that at one point, it had been a elvish fortress captured during the Expulsion, and some archaeological finds do support that theory. However, in the centuries after the Expulsion, the fortress—along with the Forgotten Valley—changed hands and was passed from noble house to noble house as merely a parcel of land and a holding. Attempts to reconstruct the fortress were always abandon, given its size and the extreme expense involved in completely rebuilding the Keep.   Once Aesaria's army was defeated at Tregaron, his forces fled to the Forgotten Valley. The Keep was hastily made livable and suitable for an army encampment, and renovations were slowly completed by Aesaria's soldiers to make the Keep more defensible. After the Raid on Tregaron, however, and the Royal Council's incursion to the Valley, the Keep was again abandoned.
