Griffin

Basic Information

Anatomy

Large flying creatures with the head, wings, and forelimbs of an eagle and the body and hind legs of a lion.

Genetics and Reproduction

Griffins tend to pair for life soon after they reach adulthood.

Females will lay a clutch of 3-5 eggs that the pair will raise for the next 4-5 years

Growth Rate & Stages

Egg

Griffins will devolope within the egg for 2 months before hatching.

Hatchling

For the next 6 months the hatchling Griffins will stay withen the large dens of their parents.

Juvenile

Once the Griffin's wings have devloped enough for short flights they will begin leaving their dens to observer and eventually partcipate in their parents hunts. This stage generally lasts for 4 years give or take half a year afterwhich the young Griffin is ejected from their parent's territories.

Adult

The Griffin is now a sexually mature adult and will find a partner. The two will then claim unclaimed territory or attempt to push out another pair from theirs.

Ecology and Habitats

Coastal

Most Griffins are coastal animals. They make their dens in the many caves along coastal cliffs. Their main source of food being large fish and marine mammals.

Mountain

There is a subset of Griffins that live in the high peaks of some mountain ranges. These Griffins tend to be significantly larger than their coastal relatives. They prey on the many mountain grazers such as mountain goats, but have been known to hunt horses when avaliable.
