Session 2: Veilgurad Keep Report

General Summary

The wizard at the Borderlands seeing that evening was coming on soon gave them a letter of introduction to let them into the small town inside the Veilguard Keep. They arrived just before they sealed the gates for the night, and with their letter were let into the keep.   Odo, captain of the watch, had them register their names and pointed them towards the Traveller's Inn and Hammer's Tavern. They booked private rooms for the night and ate their fill of food at the tavern. Once they finished eating and getting the lay of the land they went to their room but stopped at the notice board they spotted on their way out. They saw two requests one for adventurers to find a merchant that had been kidnapped and a request for a man's babies who were in danger. As well as a notice of an Ogre that had been spotted in the woods somewhere east of the keep.   After a full night's rest they immediately made their way to the south wall and met with the man who had put up the request about his babies being in danger. Glondahl and Overcom went downstairs following the man called Jareth to see his basement filled with dead giant rats. Hundaga and Itemba took the opportunity to explore upstairs to find many of the rooms locked. They found Jareth's bedroom and it was filled with live giant rats, but none of them attacked them. Seeing little information to be gained here they made their way back to the cellar. There they all learned that the rats were the babies mentioned on the notice board and he explained to them that some creature has broken in and is killing his rats. Jareth wants them to go and kill the beast and he would pay them 10gp if they were successful.    Glondahl saw something in shadows of the cellar, finding a tunnel in the wall. He made his way to check the strange thing to only be jumped by two panthers with two spiked tails and walking on six legs. Glondahl shouted to his allies as a battle erupted in the cave. Overcom launched Magic Missile barrages at the creature to reveal that it was a single monster instead of two. This allowed Glondahl and Hundarga to attack with their swords cutting deep into the beast's flesh. Itembea as well with his fists of steel deflected the creature's tail strikes.    The creature fled seeing the battle turning against it, and the rest of them chased after it through the tunnel. They chased it to the exit of the tunnel that led to the cliffs just outside the keep. They attempted to kill the beast but it narrowly escaped leaving a trail of blood as it retreated into the forest. They decided to not chase after it for Overcom remembered that it is actually a Displacer Beast a cunning creature that rarely hunts alone. It was not safe for them to hunt and run into more, so they told Jareth that they had taken care of the beast. He thank them, and then told them where to find the Guild House to speak with the guild master about the missing merchant.
