Steel Dragonkin

Descendants of Steel Dragons

A quick look in the mirror confirms that not a single scale is out of place, that once twisted horns now disappeared under thick hair. Scales gave way to unblemished skin, eyes shifted to look more like the Elves that would soon be surrounding him. This form wouldn’t last long, only a day or so, but it would be enough to enter the Unending Scroll and complete his research without the wandering eyes that so often followed him.   Steel Dragonkin are the descendants of one of the Elder Races and a Steel Dragon. They have the ability to change their forms like Steel Dragons, but their timing is limited and they tend to use the form as little as possible. Their abilities make them useful to any number of people and countries, but they will only use their shifting for causes they deem worthy.   Above all else, these people believe in service. The Council of Metallic Dragons has proven that they can make a difference, no matter how small, no matter where. Metallic Dragonkin follow in the footsteps of their ancestors, each in different ways. Steel Dragonkin are masters of infiltration, using their shape-shifting to enter places that normally they would be unable to for one reason or another. No longer where they find themselves, these people find their purpose in the gathering of knowledge.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Steel Dragonkin share some specific traits with their Draconic ancestors that prove their ties to the Steel Dragons. Their facial features are someone jagged, with a jawline defined by small spikes. Horns that curl downward towards their faces and a smaller muscular body are also common in Steel Dragonkin.   All Dragonkin inherit sharp claws, extremely strong and protective scales, as well as a breath weapon that they can use. Some of these traits are affected by the color of the Dragonkin as the many varieties of Dragons also vary greatly in their abilities. Steel Dragonkin have the ability to change their form to be of a different origin while their breath weapon is essentially pure magic.   Common Colorations

Common Colorations

While their coloration is in their name, Steel Dragonkin can still come in a variety of shades, matching the shades found in the scales of Steel Dragons. Their scales can range from a lighter steel color to a darker steel, but their range of color is not as large as the Chromatic Dragonkin. The color of their eyes has a much smaller range, often only being yellow, brown, red, green, grey, or purple.

Social Structure

Metallic Dragonkin are considered the more social of the two groups of Dragonkin, although this is greatly influenced by the stigmas that surround certain colors of scales. Steel Dragonkin tend to live in a variety of places throughout the world, including in larger cities and singular villages that are made up of a mix of Metallic Dragonkin. These people often make their living as Spies and Scholars, utilizing their shape-shifting to get them into a variety of places. Of all the Metallic Dragonkin, Steel Dragonkin are often seen as the least trusted.   A small population of Steel Dragonkin calls the Fearsome Maw home as their talents are best used for gathering information that the Dragonkin might not normally be privy to. They prefer traveling constantly to gain knowledge and rarely spend a great deal of time in any given place. Seeing Dragonkin of this color is rather rare unless they are comfortable enough to be in their natural form.

I can see why they would be the least trusted if they can change their forms. A useful talent to have, though.
