Dorrin Thunderbeard

First Dwarven King

From the days when Crommel gave them life, placing them beneath the Great mountains of the northeast so that they could mine and forge, fulfilling the duties divinely granted, the Dwarves were little more than wanderers in the lands that were given so generously. Lost in both direction and purpose, they wandered the caverns and tunnels, neither gathering nor forming communities, choosing instead to find their own purpose, far removed from those who were the same.

Few questioned this separation from each other, choosing to continue the wayward wandering that gave nothing in return. Centuries passed in this way, long enough in the lives of the fledgling race for them to have realized the foley of their ways, but few did, the cycle continuing as more Dwarves came from the earth, as their numbers grew to hundreds and then some from their humble origins. Over time, those who questioned why Crommel had given them so much would bring about the changes necessary.

Dorrin Thunderbeard, first of his name, made great strides toward change. He gathered the Dwarves lost beneath the mountains and led them home to what would one day become the Sapphie City. Under the guidance of this youngling, young by the standards of his people, a nation would be born, one of master smiths, academics, and craftsmen that would be known the world over in just a handful of centuries. From an empty cavern of wayward souls came the crown jewel of Dwarven society and the clan that would forever lead them.

Personal history

Dorrin Thunderbeard was born as one of the earliest of the second generation of Dwarves after his people were placed in the world by Crommel. He would be the first of seven children his parents had over the years, long before clans and names mattered to the stout folk. They were Miners by trade, wandering where the ore was easiest to find. While Crommel had granted them the knowledge to mine, forge, and continue the cycle, the Dwarves were not granted the tools and had to create those for themselves.   Life was relatively simple for Dorrin and his family. As they traveled the tunnels of what would eventually be named the Great Furnaces, they often passed other Dwarves that had gathered in small groups, often fledgling families that were slowly growing. Even as a child, Dorrin questioned why the stout folk did not gather, sharing information and resources to better their lives and thrive with everything that Crommel had given them. The answer was always that collaboration and community were never part of the directives and teachings as given to them by their creator.   As a young man of 50, Dorrin set out from his family, traveling to see if he could begin to make the changes that few of the wandering Dwarves craved. A homeland to be proud of, a central place for all of them to live and create together. In his earliest travels, the cavern for the Sapphire City was found, and the grand dream of Dorrin would begin to take shape, if only he could convince others of this vision.   More decades would pass, slowly traveling and gathering the small family groups that had wandered the tunnels for longer than this man had been alive. It was difficult to make so many turn away from their nomadic lifestyles, but the dream of a kingdom made in the name of Crommel, a small payment of honor for the creator who had given them so much. A community of forges where all could mine and create without the hardships that individuals faced soon turned even the naysayers to the idea of a unified Dwarven Kingdom.   At the age of 175, the beginnings of the Sapphire City and the Dwarven Kingdom began to take shape under the direction of Dorrin. The family groups that had joined him were given clan names, names that would be recorded in history and stand as the greatest of people. With the Kingdom slowly coming together, the newly named Dorrin Thunderbeard would be named king of the fledgling kingdom, his vision slowly arising from the blank stone of the Great Furnaces.
