Terminal Breach Exposure

(Written by Dr. Artemis)   Terminal Breach Exposure or TBE is disease caused by overexposure to Null-breaches located currently exclusively on Saliv.   When an individual develops TBE their body begins to mutate, losing some cognitive abilities and enhancing others. These mutations will eventually spread and become terminal which gives them their common name "Termies". Their mutations vary greatly and each mutation has been unique. The mutations seem to be organic in nature causing Subjects to develop insect, animal, or mineral like appendages.   Currently it is unknown if more developed mutations derive from a larger exposure or from development over time. There are differing levels of the mutations from Minor Breach Exposure to Terminal Breach Exposure, currently it is unknown if these minor mutations will eventually progress to Terminal status. TBE Subjects all seem to share pack mentalities and indulge in cannibalism. They retain skills in crude tools and in weapons, including guns. More research must be done on them, but as most encounters are deadly, proper study must be made with trained individuals.   In March 2669 three Inheritor Alliance scientists- Dr. Jasper Artemis, Ana "Starluck" Acantha, and Dr. Lance Bottas completed a series of invasive tests on a captured terminal.    It was determined that there is no major forms of intelligence left within a Terminal. Their higher brain functions have been turned in ways where those lobes are now being used for other things-be it interface with their divergent limbs and organs, the ability to telepathically speak with their pack, or any other number of adaptations that allow it to survive breach contaminated environments. Some retain the ability to speak and grasp simple concepts though you can be sure any proposed bargains between Dremlas and those rare termies that can understand language or the concepts proposed will not be adhered to for long.   Bioscopics cannot fix this condition as the mutations caused by a breach are now what the body recognizes as its natural state and any applied healing energies simply repair the Terminal to its current form rather than returning it to its unchanged human form.   The nature of their changed forms also means there is no one solution to keep them away from inhabited areas. Those with animal characteristics will need to be repelled based on their dominant animal traits, those who have merged with plants or fungi may be able to be contained with chemical repellents, though they may eventually resist any containment measures as their bodies are more complex than simple plants or animals.
