Olarian Auroch
This creature is similar to ancestral Earth’s wild bovines: they are large quadrupeds and generally travel in herds. The animals yield a significant amount of meat, and the hair, hide, milk and bones also give economically useful products. Although first identified and described on Olar they may exist on other worlds.
The Aurochs are relatively unintelligent and will struggle to escape properly organized traps. Their defensive instincts are strong, and the larger animals – especially the dominant male – will respond violently to any threat to the herd. As the creatures can cover ground rapidly, it is advisable to be some distance away, or in an unreachable firing position before attempting to attack them. It may take between three and six shots from a TL4 weapon to down a large specimen, and a herd may contain a dozen or more adult members.
The Aurochs replenish their numbers quickly, with females usually being pregnant with twins. Assuming sufficient food supplies, the adorable calves grow quickly, allowing the herd to survive predation.
