Mithrilheart Kingsguard

Founding

  The Mithrilheart Kingsguard is an elite military formation established after The Scream, in December 2670. With tensions between houses at an all time high, and the polity once again venturing into the starts an independent always ready military formation acting independently of elector called levees was needed, and was established by a think tank of polity notables. Among those figures were Polity hereos Bivitas, Lucia Shaw, and Alura Grian Lugh who set the example for the meeting by thinking of the good of the polity before the glory of their elector-house.   The Kingsguard begun life as a battalion sized unit of 500 of the polity best. The vetting process is very rigid and all members of the Kingsguard must:  

• Pass an IQ Test

• Pass a Social Intelligence Test

• Pass a Physical Endurance Test

• Prove Worth via Merit or Reference

• Pass a Background Check

  Each elector is given a 'free' pick which allows the merit check to be bypassed, though there is an unspoken social rule that these members must be far and above their comrades and such their merit cannot be questioned. This rule allows for each house to maintain representation within the Kingsguard, and prevents the guard from being yet another battleground as each house strives to flood it with applicants.   The Kingsguard draws mostly from the common people and lesser houses, the paths presented by proximity to the elector court easy to grasp for those with keen eyes to see them.  

Battle Doctrine

  The Kingsguard have two main roles, ceremonial and elite operations. Ceremonial Kingsguard specialize in asset protection, close quarters combat, and undergo intense training in all manner of weapons. Polity experts currently scour the stars for teachers of martial arts to give these Kingsguard in the most important of roles yet more tools to defend their very important persons.   The elite operations portion of the Kingsguard is a branch all are expected to serve in based on polity need. Eschewing the traditional glittering suits of armor and blades with modern combat armor and rifles. Others excel in covert operations and are proficient in the work of infiltrators and sappers.   As a new formation, their doctrine continues to expand and will no doubt evolve as the Elected Monarchy expands.
