Hydracoral

The coral on Terezinho is a mix of various grasses, urchins, and creepers that can exist underwater, covering the surfaces of rock formations, sunken vessels, and occasionally even creeping a handful of meters above the waterline on rocky coasts, where the constituting plants dine on the ocean spray.   Many of these grasses release a pain-numbing effect when boiled in clean water, and they are both highly prized and guarded as a pharmaceutical ingredient by the natives. Coral networks on this world are more sensitive than most, and if too much is removed too quickly, the entire growth could die.
