Hergudr

  • Invasive Biosphere
  • Thin Atmosphere, Breathable with Mask
  • Hundreds of Thousands of Inhabitants
  • TL 3
The Hergudr system contains two planets in the habitable zone, each of them with relatively the same climate. Only Hergudr has a moon that is barren, the victim of constant meteor strikes. Both planets have a few small settlements on their surface.   A gas giant and sun round out the system.   The inhabitants are focused on constantly beating back the invasive jungles around their settlements as the plants can grow dozens of meters per day if not properly culled. Burn teams are common, staffed by colonists as young as 12 for the most basic of jobs.   Ruins choked out by the invasive jungle dot the surface, places where the colonists lost their war against nature, their bones now homes for animals and food for scavengers.   Mid 2668 saw Valentina Spiros and the Aphroditan Guild of Exploration and Trade entirely clear the northern island of vegetation. As it stands, the locals are grateful for the assistance, but are denying refugees from other parts of the planet rights to settle alongside them.   By late 2669 the twin planets took on a much different apperance due to continued Protectorate support. Fleets of Protectorate developed de-planting rigs patrol the planet, slashing and burning the vines in patrol patterns around the surviving settlements that dot the surface of each world, few as they are. The locals continue fighting the plants when needed, occasionally venturing out into the vine choked wasteland to slash and burn places the harvesters did not reach fast enough, though now instead if it being a daily fight, things seem to be happening weekly.   Each world has a Protectorate installed government on it, and the locals seem to be slowly working with the government to make a better world from the failed settlements of the old.   Life on Hergudr became more complicated in late 2669 through late 2670 by the emergence of a group called The Jade Order. This band of vine worshiping cultists believed that the system was rightfully inhabited by the pervasive growth, and that the human settlers were the actual invasive species here trying to force a life on planets that did not want them. Through the dilligent investigations of Protectorate explorer Moff, it was revealed that The Jade Order was originally instructed by an off world benefactor, and that the vines had special growth genome similar to the trees of Gudrun added to their genetic makeup. This caused their explosive growth without the soil drying characteristics the Gudrun trees are known for. This genetic tampering was done during the Second Age of Exploration, and has been later harnessed by the Order members to allow the vines to spread.
