Doona Ahn

Doona Ahn is a skilled biopsionicist and metapsion potential who contracted with Greenbriar initially to provide specialized care to the company's leadership team on the new colony. She was still in cryo when the Scream happened, which is why she survived it. Since being awakened, Doona has taken on increasing responsibilities, and developed the ability to train new psychics. She operates as a headmistress of sorts for Gudrun's burgeoning psychic academy, and has recently been named Adviser on Psychic Relations for the colony's new democratic administration by President Kincaid. Full Bio   Doona Ahn was born on a small, Korean-state-sponsored colony world called So-yeon. An early bloomer, her latent Metadimensional Extroversion Syndrome was diagnosed at age nine, at which point she was removed from her parents and extensively trained at an academy on Mars aimed at serving Tenebrean leadership. She emerged an accomplished biopsionic with noted potential metapsionic abilities at age 16, and served a "gratitude" period of indentured servitude as personal physician to a number of mid-level Tenebrean figures to pay-off the cost of her education in the following years. Doona reached a turning point in this sheltered life as the Tenebrean-Black Sun War raged towards its conclusion. She began volunteering time and energy not already paid for at a refugee camp at age 23, and it was there she met Irene Zavala.   Irene was an investigative journalist with a nose for sniffing out corruption that had already been broken and re-set three times before Doona did it for her on Mars. Her firebrand devotion to dragging shady dealings into the light of day had her bringing more bruises, broken bones, and stab wounds into the camp than anyone else. Over time the chats the two women had while she was treated—where she filled Doona in on what life was like beyond the sterile halls she grew up in—became real dates. After about a year and a half Doona graciously concluded her last education compensation contract and they were married.   The contract Doona was offered with Greenbriar, Inc after the War was the first real test of their marriage. Despite the many new possibilities it offered them, Doona was hesitant to take it because it would mean either removing Irene from most of her contacts and the outlets she sold stories to, or separating them over an incredible distance. Irene surprised her by urging her to take the opportunity for a totally new life and signing on as a general worker so they could stay together. She joked that her being there from the start would mean no truly shady corporate interests could take root, because she would hold them accountable from day one, even if it was from the crop fields.   Doona’s cryo pod was on the first colony ship. Irene’s was on the second, the Pillar of Salt. Doona was awakened after recovery of her lost pod to find her wife missing and presumed dead, and nearly every other psychic brutally killed during the Scream. In time she worked past her shock and grief to assist those psychics who also survived, becoming a teacher who could help them control their abilities. She served as medical support during the final battle against the Helldivers and was recognized by the Taros Confederacy for her exemplary aid. She has also personally treated dozens if not hundreds of colonists and foreign allies with her biopsionic abilities. Eventually, when the Pillar of Salt was discovered to have survived, she accompanied a team up to assist the survivors aboard and was reunited with Irene. With her wife safe and sound, Doona has thrown herself into a serious study of the Scream, and been named Adviser on Psychic Relations for the colony.
