Desolane
Desolane is an elementalist mage originating from the Rana system deep within the L-Gate. She escaped the Still Lady cult with the help of Fergus, a Still Lady pacter looking to also break out of the cult, and Dave, a rogue double-agent Weeping Company pacter working to undermine the Still Lady's forces and shadow research. Desolane's powers were used to help protect the escaping spacecraft from the metaspace storm that otherwise prevents interplanetary travel within the L-Gate. Being a traitor of the enemy to the Weeping Company, Desolane was originally granted a limited asylum in exchange for service in the Weeping Company as a teacher to other potential mages. This was almost immediately thrown into chaos when Dave attempted to resist a brain slate mind-filtering by his Weeping Company superiors. Her fate was to be exiled, if she did not resist. When Dave was brought back to life in a new shell and filtered memories, Desolane, along with Fergus, assisted Dave in finding the tools necessary to kill the Still Lady across the Iron Stars.
In exchange for stopping Dave and assisting the Weeping Company in the matter, Kayden Zayre of the Elysium Protectorate assisted in Desolane's exile by bringing her across the L-Gate to Heras. There, she was given a position of caretaker of the Heras Psychic Academy branch along with Fergus. She has led a mostly-humble life of study and assistance, providing guidance on discovered relics and investigation on the Leylines that pass through Heras and nearby worlds. In tandem with Fergus, Desolane has helped with the Overlord curse, the restoration of the undead and de-thralled Eloinelstan of Mytikas, and on more active assignment, provided direct assistance to General Ivan Wyke in the Metanor Campaign in holding back man-eater swarms, countering enemy shaman combat mages, and contacting the Leyline beings in control of the planet.

Desolane appears sickly, having a thin, tall frame and a very pale complexion. Her most notable feature are her eyes. When not covered with a blindfold to hide their concerning appearance, her eye sockets contain only a deep black void. Desolane has not explained why her eyes are this way, but she maintains full vision even through her blindfold. As an Elementalist, she finds herself most at home closest to the sky and during turbulent weather. Unlike Fergus, Desolane maintains her abilities outside of the L-Gate, but their use usually exerts a proportional but heavy toll on her body. She is rarely seen in an undignified way, demonstrating a regal professionalism at all times and often chastises Fergus for his overly casual behavior. Despite this, through the near-lethal defection away from the Still Lady and their banishment from Nesuna, she considers Fergus to be her closest friend.
