  The people of Biputer inhabit a badlands world with the occasional green belt that makes the construction of nation-states possible. When not engaged in the endless process of reclaiming their world from the clutches of environmental destruction, they are engaged in fighting one another over the resources that remain. Advanced robotics, exotic weapons, strange walkers, and unconventional methods of vehicle locomotion accompany the horde of Scrap-Smith vehicles into war. Many are also known to inhabit biomechanical constructs known as 'Frames' - a synthetic body housing a copied mind. It is through this process revered warriors, trusted leaders , and the other most valued members of society are permitted to live long past the normal lifetimes their harsh planet allows.    The Scrap-Smiths have no central government and are instead organized into different clans. Clan politics are likewise disunified and ebb and flow as clans fall, merge, splinter and strengthen. Many are known to band together when the desert reveals an especially valuable site, or when the climate crisis reaches its peak- but only for long enough to allow the crisis to be managed before the old rivalries assert themselves once more.    Scrap Smith Ajax has made overtures to the Communist Brotherhood of Stellar States, as they are linked via the L-Gate on Vari. Thus far, they are on friendly terms.
