A Lesson on Duality

A journal entry from the Jademane explorer Syringa. This entry was written after exploring their dying former homeworld of Aliah, and crossing through the metaspace rift on its surface to the world beyond.   A Lesson on Duality   The journey began with a moon as green and full of life as the planet it orbited   For generations beyond remembering Aliah's moon orbited the verdant world below. The Jademane looked up and would use the passing of Ardisia to measure the cycles of the beautiful home. When to plant, when to harvest, when the lopes would migrate. All could be determined by the phases of Ardisia and its location in the sky. The peaceful people of Aliah had no knowledge. No forewarning to the horror of the sky falling down upon them.   The Tenebrian Remnant had to test the functionality of their horrific maltech device. A mining platform capable of harnessing vast amounts of rock and metal in short order. All powered by the torched minds from thousands of souls. The results were catastrophic. Ardisia was no more and grove after grove of Jademane were crushed by the massive chunks falling down to Aliah.   Efforts were made by the emerging UNW and Psychic Academy to prevent a total catastrophy. The heroes that had first made contact with the Jademane of Aliah had captured all the moon chunks and had them dragged to outside of the planet's gravity. It was through these efforts that any Jademane still lived.   Years went by but the Jademane knew that something was different with the world that had called their home for generation after generation. With so many Groves destroyed, there was no complete histories of their people anymore. Was this a new affliction caused by outside forces?   Then came the Conjunction. A cyclical event that answered their question. Aliah was not under assault by another Tri-Green or Tenebrian Remnant. Aliah was dying. Or so everyone thought. 'The Great Disconnection' it would be called. Jademane were part of Aliah as much as a tree was part of the soil. But after the Conjunction, that bond was being separated.   The High Mage and The Scientist came. They tapped into the lifegiving energy of the dying Mother Aliah. With machines born of the human mind, they were able to harness the power of the Conjunction to create a new home for the Jademane. For many it would be the start of a new chapter. A way to move past the terribly painful event.   For Syringa of the Lacustre Grove, it was a moment that only spawned more questions. What was behind the Great Disconnection? Why did Aliah have to die? What mysteries lay beyond the gate of shimmering silver?   Walking through the rift on the dying world of her birth was a moment filled with trepidation for the brave explorer. With friends at her side she stepped through the portal to a place where few souls had been. What would this new world be like? Was it dying as well? What part did it play in The Great Disconnection?   To their surprise they found a world full of vitality and beauty. Eveywhere the eye could see was filled with sights of 'life' on full display. From decaying trees and creatures wasting away their final days on Aliah to vibrant leaves and creatures announcing their presence to all nearby on this new world through the gate.   To their shock and amazement they found something unexpected. The bewildering discoveries did not stop there. Every plant examined turned out to be a distant relative to one on Aliah. Every creature found in this new world shared a common ancestor with a creature on Aliah. They had their differences and divergent evolutions, sure, but they were all related. This place was the other side of a world sized coin.   Onward they pressed and the evidence mounted. Every flower, every shrub, every critter and every beast was related in some way to one known to have lived on Aliah. This new place was not separate. And the Great Disconnection was hardly a disconnection at all. Everywhere she looked, Syringa found Mother Aliah's spirit. [2:27 PM] It no longer was a separating event, but a crossing over. A transfer. Two worlds sharing one unifying spirit. And in order to protect both and allow both their time to flourish, the spirits of these two worlds had learned to share lest the candle be burned from both ends. While one diminshed, the other flourished and this was done willingly. An act of sacrifice on the scale of worlds.   An act so powerful and full of life that it is strong enough to overcome even the touch of evil incarnate. Even the Still Lady's mark could not stop the life-renewing energy that was found in its waters.   Like all things. Energy is never lost, only given another form. This fundamental rule of the universe is on beautiful display. And so she returns to the gate. With friends both old and new. So that the next part of her story can be told   This part of the journey ended with a step through a silvery door to the decaying wilds of Aliah.
