A Drink for Acastus (Chris Fury)
By the time the third moon rose we were drunk on red rice beer
There were no rain or clouds so the stars shone cold and clear
Our neutron sun, in its sky run, gave a faint blue flickering light
We chatted of other worlds who have days and not just night
Oh Acastus, our neon home of volcanoes, rain and ash!
Our hydrofarms grow great bounty over the geothermal gash
Other places have their graces like oceans and shining suns,
But we’ve got coffee, bread and chocolate by the tons!
There may be terrible troubles like ghouls and ghostly beasts
But they are just the dark dessert after magical misty feasts
We gather in our coffee shops and sing them away with songs
While our rebels and freedom fighters work to right their wrongs
Our planet runs the gamut of riddles old and new
Our mysteries are too many and our explanations far too few
So if you meet a sad Acastan, with their teary eyes a glisten
a drink of ale will get you a tale worth at least one listen
