Not all of the world was created equally.
After Ourborros, the devourer, destroyed the First World, Am'Saor, the gods sought to create a new place to rule over.
As they had alienated the great Goddess of Creation, Ima, they were left with no other option than to steal the lands and power necessary to create a new world. They tore pieces away from the Fey Realm and the Umber Reach, dimensions of life and death respectively to build their new domain.
These dimensions had their own lords however, and they opposed the designs of the gods. The Elder Fey, lords of the Fey Realm began a war against the celestial forces, which they ultimately lost. The Umber Lords, powerful dark entities realized they were no match for the gods, so devised a more sinister form of resistance.
As the gods were stripping away part of their domain, the Umber Lords cursed the lands. The part of the new world formed from them would be of no use to the gods. Their divine essence would not reach the mortals living there, their followers would be lost and alone. And so the Silent Lands were formed. A vast part of the world that is hidden from the vision of the gods. They cannot know what happens there and their power cannot reach it. They cannot hear prayers and cannot grant spells.
For a short time the gods sought to rectify this situation, but as the centuries past, their attempts failed and other more urgent matters came to their attention, the Silent Lands were forgotten. Likewise, the inhabitants of the Silent Lands began drifting away from their devotion to the gods. Ancestor worship, shamanism and spirit worship and even cults that bow to devils, demons and other dark entities filled the spiritual void. Now, after millennia of divine silence, few know of or care about the gods, the old ones or the new.
