Creation of the Planes

Creation of the planes   Even before Ima came in to being there was the Astral Sea, the Ethereal Plane, the primordial chaos and the mountain Telamon. It was on Telamon Ima awakened and from here all other things were created. Ima separated the 4 elements in to their own planes and used their energies to create the material plane and Am’Saor, the first world, as part of it. Ima's first children, the gods, were given Am’Saor to rule over but soon they found themselves living among mortal beings who worshiped and served them. They tore the greatest mountain off Am’Saor and placed in the heavens to form a new home, Mount Elysium.   Aro’s first rule caused a shift in the material plane. It now cast two shadows, one overflowing with life, the other filled with death. The mirrorworlds of Umber Reach and the Feyrealm were born. With death changing the order of the universe the gods created the Fields of Waiting and the Pit to welcome, shelter and punish the dead in the afterlife.   The Divine Hierarchy   As Ima created the Gods she gave the cosmos to them to rule over. Each God became defined by the aspect of reality he or she decided to govern. As more Gods were born the aspect given to each God became smaller and more specific, limiting that God’s influence over the cosmos. Later, the Gods decided to create life themselves and brought forth the celestials to serve them. These beings were still immortal, but much less powerful than even the weakest God. And so the Divine Hierarchy was born. Powerful Gods lorded over lesser Gods who in turn governed angels who directed the lesser celestials. Mortals are not part of the Divine Hierarchy. For eons the Divine Hierarchy brought order to the universe, until the Great Rebellion.   The Great Rebellion   The creation of mortals brought hope to the lesser angels and celestials who made up the lowest ranks of the Divine Hierarchy. They believed they would soon have beings even lower on the hierarchy than they were. Beings to serve them as they had served their superiors for so long. When the Gods decreed that mortals were to be exempt from the Divine Hierarchy, the lesser ranks of celestials rioted and revolted against their masters. The Gods themselves were forced to intervene to defeat the rebels and when the dust settled they imprisoned them in the Pit and ordered them to oversee the mortals’ punishment.   The Profane Hierarchy   After the Great Rebellion the fallen celestials were transformed in to devils by their own hate and evil. They took to their new duty with pleasure and forced the poor souls sent to them to serve as slaves. Thowever, to their chagrin, they had to allow them to leave whenever they wanted, something they themselves could not do. In mockery of the Divine Hierarchy, the devils formed the Profane Hierarchy. At the top the Triumvirate of Hell rules the Pitt from the fortress Dubnos. Next in line are pit fiend barons followed by the many infernal ranks. Mortals themselves can join the Profane Hierarchy by stepping through the Duat Gates out of their own free will. Doing so transforms them in to Lemures or Imps, placing them at the very bottom of the hierarchy.   Birth of the Abyss   Not all devils accepted their punishment and some sought ways out of the Pitt. A giant whirlpool in the Acheron Sea transported the waters of the River Styx to unknown planes. Some devils chose to ride the river Styx through the whirlpool in the hopes of escaping their imprisonment. These devils ended up in a place worse than the nine layers of hell, the Abyss. The Abyss continues to grow, like a cancer on the planes. Demons sometimes make it out of the Abyssal Eye to wreak havoc on the Pit, which has caused a deep seeded enmity between devils and demons.
