Gliders
Gliders is the name of a game played in the summer months of The Rainlands, mainly by minotaur. The game involves tossing flattened disks of beaten yellow cedar bark with your horns, to the horns of another player. Only horns are permitted to touch the hoops, as well as the snout, though using one's snout is frowned upon in most cases.
Non-minotaur, in the years since The War of Tusk and Horn , have created a version of this game that can be played on a smaller scale (for orcs) and a very smaller scale (for goblins), along with a horned helmet that is strapped to one's head. Minotaur opinion to this is varied; some see it is a bastardization of their traditions, while others view it favourably and are happy that outsiders show interest in their inventions.
History
Gliders is as old as time, with evidence showing that it has been played by the minotaur of The Rainlands for as long as there have been minotaur within The Rainlands.
Execution
Each team has five members, and they are attempting to get their hoop to the opposing end of the pitch. Pitches vary in size but are generally 20-40 metres long and roughly 30 metres wide. Once on the other side, players attempt to hook their hoop over a tall spike driven into the ground. The spike is usually made from a shore pine, placing it at anywhere from two to five metres tall.
The nonstandard element of this game is that there are two hoops on the pitch at any given time. Either team can score with either hoop, and it is up to the team to simultaneously allow themselves to score while forbidding the opposing team from doing the same thing.
Components and tools
A pair of horns, a tall pole, and two hoops of woven cedar bark are all that is needed.
Observance
Games are played at dusk and dawn in the summer in The Rainlands, before or after the wind dies down.
