Sarwix

Magical creatures, more commonly known as Sarwixs are creatures which are unusually strong, intelligent, or just possess some form of magical prowess. While not all Sarwixs are magical in nature inherently, they are still sometimes referred to as such, as it is believed these creatures could have become intelligent or strong outside of being blessed by some form of magic. Below is a compendium of Sarwix, each entry is ordered from name(s), commonly found location/environment, rarity, and any known information about their abilities. The rarity of Sarwix is as follows : uncommon, rare, mythical, legendary.

For characters to know this information they are required to have tiers in the skill “Sarwix Lore” (mind 1) equivalent to the rarity of the Sarwix. The rarity goes as follows respective to the previously mentioned rarity : 5, 10, 15, 25.

(note, this page is fairly WIP still, and expect the current amount to only be roughly around 1 / 3 of the total)

(additional note, none of the creature here will be creatures exclusively found in the desert, as those are specifically Desert Demons and Sand Devils, both of which are found in the lore page : Fierce Deserts)

Uncommon Sarwixs

Acumtra

Found in : Anywhere, Hills & Mountains

These large chitinous creatures have rough and rigid shells which mimic that of boulders near mountains and hills which makes them difficult to spot. Due to this many will fall prey to this creature's powerful claws as they are taken by surprise after wandering to close to what they had previously suspected as a mere boulder. These creatures are far more dangerous in Stisedo as a blizzard can cover up the small details that experienced mercenaries would use to detect the Acumtra, additionally, due to the fierce cold a large boulder makes for emergency cover to warm one's body or setup a rest area, making the Acumtra's ambush even deadlier. While the Acumtra can be a dangerous and unexpected foe, if one can locate gaps in its chitinous exo-skeleton and deliver precise blows, the creature is not horribly difficult to kill, as an added benefit, some mercenaries have made note that the meat of an Acumtra is delicious when cooked.

Aouzli

Found in : Kelazhur & Stisedo, Swamps & Plains

Before Much was found about this Sarwix, it was thought to be a wraith that primarily wandered the Kelazhurian swamps maliciously abducting people who came through their territory, ironically, other than the assumption of it being a wraith, the reality isn't much different. The Aouzli is akin to an Alligator with a venomous maw and a large tail which splits into four tentacles. The Aouzli primarily stays hidden underneath soft dirt or mud with its tentacles poking out only slightly until prey steps atop one of these tentacles, it will then pull the victim downwards before biting them and inflicting them with a rather strong (albeit fairly short) paralytic venom. Should one notice the tentacles, avoiding the Aouzli is fairly easy, however, the tentacles themselves seamlessly camouflage with the dirt/mud they poke out of, as such, it is recommended to frequently check the stability of the dirt if traveling outside of frequently used roads. While the Aouzli was originally a Sarwix only found within Swamps, in the last couple decades they seem to have partially migrated to plains as well, while slightly more scarce in the plains, they have served to terrify many who previously thought these areas relatively free of hidden dangers, leading many merchants traveling through these areas to only travel using caravans, after all, better the Horses die than them.

Fara

Found in : Zaveron, Forests

The Fara is a massive white haired bear that is found every now and then within the forests of Zaveron. The Fara is fairly aggressive and will attack most on sight, this is unless a “offering” (usually a large chunk of food) is given. Thus comes about the other namesake of the Fara, wise bear, it gained this name as those who gave repeated “offerings” were able to form a “friendship” with the bear, and notice that despite being unable to speak, it is incredibly intelligent. Should one attempt to engage a Fara, it should be known that unless they are Reynolds Knight, they will be overpowered in any contest of strength.

Frun

Found in : Stisedo, Forests and Mountains

Essentially just a wolf if you disregard the ability to grow chunks of razor sharp ice over its claws, teeth, and back. Additionally, the Frun is able to spew an icy breath that can even freeze less cautious opponents. While a normal wolf’s howl is nothing to get spooked by for normal mercenaries and travelers, many take heavy handed precautions, as the Frun are known to travel in packs, similar to regular wolves, and in large numbers they can fell even 30 man armed caravans.

Ithzir (Salvation)

Found in : Stisedo, Forests (almost exclusively found during blizzards)

While many would consider this simply an albino snake, the truth is far more terrifying. Commonly referred to as Salvation by suicidal slaves within Stisedo, this Sarwix has a venom so potent that it is comparable to the highest level of the taboo poison Irae field. As such, death is practically guaranteed, albeit, only after a slow, and agonizing suffering of the venom’s effects. Other than their notable venom, these snakes are more agile than the common snake making an ambush or pre-emptive strike a horrifying probability. These Snakes curiously seem to only appear during blizzards, in extremely rare occurrences they have been found hibernating in miniscule crevices within caves.

Lonki

Found in : Beaches and the ground near Rivers

The Lonki is a relatively small creature sometimes likened to a mix between a turtle and a hermit crab due to spending most of its life underneath a shell. Unlike a creature like a turtle, whose shell is made from bone, the Lonki's shell is made from skin, which after molting hardens to becoming exponentially stiffer and more durable, rivaling that of steel. The Lonki is also quite adept at tunneling through soft ground, which it sometimes due to escape danger, but most often, it goes underground to help the molting process of its body. A byproduct of this molting method, will often create patches of quicksand due to primarily living amongst areas saturated with water and the strong vibrations caused from its molting. This presents a problematic situation, where should an individual sight a Lonki, they should immediately be cautious of the ground, as any patch of ground could be potentially life threatening. The Lonki itself, it not hampered by the quicksand, as it has a very low body density, which allows it to float to the top of the quicksand. Lastly, the Lonki possesses a think leathery tail, which when spread, can easily catch gusts of wind, should the Lonki flip to its back, the tail can act like a sail, and allow it to skirt across the ground in part once again, due to its very low body density. Between its tail, the quicksand, and its shell, the Lonki has a variety of ways to defend itself against any would be attacker, but any traveler with some knowhow could still easily dispose of one if need be.

Raoun

Found in : Zaveron, near destroyed structures far from the beaten path

Commonly referred to as the ruin dweller this is a Sarwix which is often found within secluded villages, guard posts, or encampments that have been destroyed and reduced to ruins for a long period of time. Most within Zaveron believe these Sarwix to be ghosts given physical form, seeking to return to a place of fondness. Somewhat supporting this tale, Raouns are often seen with a slender humanoid form with exceptionally pale skin, albeit with a head that almost seems to turn into mist, and large clawed hands and feet. As for the behavior of the Sarwix, it is paradoxically extremely territorial and extremely fearful, as such, it will often initially avoid any who come to the ruins that it resides within, waiting for them to fall asleep before striking. While rare, it is said that some Raoun are capable of speech, although even then it lacks the intellect of any normal person.

Shadowed

Found in : Kelazhur, Forests & Swamps

The Shadowed are hyper aggressive shadow man sized humanoid Sarwixs who are always seen carrying a spear and attacking in packs. From what Kelazhurian researchers have been able to investigate, they curiously do not seem to ever eat or sleep, simply seeking for their next target, of which they leave alone once killed. The most notable aspect of the Shadowed is their howl, when done in close range, can temporarily deafen and even daze their opponents, as such this must be prevented, or guarded against, at all costs. Once a Shadowed is killed their bodies will almost instantly dissipate into thin air.

Viimaoblo

Found in : Northern Zaveron & Southern Kelazhur

A curious Sarwix that feeds on blood to nourish itself, it accomplishes this by disguising itself as a fruit that is found in certain parts of Zaveron and Kelazhur. The original fruit is akin to Spirit's Delight, but about twice the size, alongside harmless spikes on the exterior, the two fruits are often compared as both are seen by delicacies by local populaces. Due to this, the Viimaoblo is occasionally referred to as the "last delight" as a form of dark humor. Nonetheless, while disguised as this fruit, should one grab the Viimaoblo, it will then extend spikes on the skin of fruit (which for the actual fruit are harmless), the Viimaoblo can extend these spikes upwards 1 meter each. The purpose of these spikes are too pierce the animal or individual before sucking their blood, the Viimaoblo can suck blood at extreme speeds, with various records showing that an adult man could be drained in just a matter of seconds. Should the disguise be seen through, or the Viimaoblo be satisfied, it will often undo its disguise and reveal its true form, a beautiful yet horrifying winged creature, and often fly away. Luckily, the Viimaoblo is easy to kill, however, in a worst case scenario, an area could be filled with these creatures, and a single drop of blood could cause a feeding frenzy, which spells certain doom for almost any group. In such a worst case scenario, there is a method to repel to temporarily buy time, albeit somewhat unreliable, the Viimaoblo is adverse to extremely loud noises, such as pieces of metal banged against one another, one will have to hope that this disorients them long enough to escape, as they will recover, and with renewed fury.

Rare Sarwixs

Monyac

Found in : Stisedo

When first discovered centuries ago, the Monyac was believed to be a small and relatively harmless variant of dragon. In current day, it is readily understood that the Monyac is its own species which has existed in Stisedo long before any dragons had even been sighted on the Mainlands. Where these creatures are found depends largely on the season, as during Winter they can be found frolicking atop large frozen lakes, In Spring and fall they are often found hovering around active volcanoes, whilst in Summer they reside at the highest peaks of the Stisedan Mountains. Monyacs are incredibly swift both on land and within the air, they are able to out speed practically any creature who even dares to rival them, with such agility that they are able to maneuver past any obstacle with ease. Additionally, should an individual provoke a Monyac, they must pay careful attention to the head, as if the Monyac has a black crown of sorts above its eyes, that means it has lived for over a century, together with their high level of intelligence, it is a foe that even veteran knights of Zaveron may struggle against. The Tail of the Monyac is heavily related to the reproductive cycle of the species, as the Monyac force their tail to glow in order to attempt to attract a mate. should a potential mate be interested in the Monyac signaling their presence, they would enact a short ritual, of wrapping their tails together, due to the nature of their tails naturally glowing as they become happier, the act often produces a serene beauty, as the glow can expand for upwards of a hundred meters. Other than when searching for mates, Monyacs are rarely seen in pairs or groups, likely due to their ability to find one another with ease, and to cross any such distance once another is found. Luckily for most travelers who happen upon a Monyac, they tend to ignore people, it is believed that the primary reason for this is their notable degree of intelligence. For many of these Traits, the nobility of Stisedo often spend ludicrous amounts of Dreons hiring highly experienced groups of mercenaries to capture a baby Monyac for their natural splendor, it is one of the few reasons which could cause an individual to witness a raging Monyac.

Riduer

Found in : Stisedo, near frozen lacks or mines

This is a paradoxical Sarwix which seems to have dominion over the element of both ice and fire. While there was originally a decent amount of information on this Sarwix, Stisedan officials seem to have either “silenced” or “stolen” any relevant detailed information.

Sekali

Found in : Anywhere with an abundance of rocks or ores

This odd Sarwix is only about the size of a horse but weighs over triple that of an elephant. A majority of Sarwix are taken note of due to their natural danger they pose towards the average person, in this the Sekali is unique, as it almost always poses near zero threat towards people. However, the Sekali brings some degree of hardship if it decides to settle in an area near civilization, this problem arises from the fact that the Sekali primarily consumes rocks and ores. For villages, towns, or cities that rely on mining to support their economy the Sekali can be akin to a natural disaster, as while the Sekali poses little threat to people, it boasts an exceptional defense and ability to survive. This is due to its perplexing physiology, as the Sekali's entire body is coated with the strongest of the rocks and ores that the Sekali has consumed. The only notable weak point of the Sekali is the bottom of its neck, however, caution should be taken while targeting the neck, as the Sekali is capable of extending its neck 2 meters, it is believed this is primarily to allow it to eat hard to reach ores. Lastly, those facing the Sekali should take caution, as despite its appearance it has exceptional sight, albeit juxtaposed by an almost non-existent level of hearing.

Senti

Found in : Kelazhur, Forests

A white and red bird capable of speech, upon being found these birds are known to ask a riddle, once the riddle is answered, the individual who answers is given a small box gift wrapped in twigs and leaves. Unless the individual is confident in riddles, they should open this “gift” carefully, as the Senti do not tell the individual whether their answer was correct or wrong, and the difference can be between a pleasant gift, or a terrible package. An important thing to note about the riddle, the reward, and the bird itself, is that the Senti is an honest and trustworthy creature.

Sordan

Found in : Primarily the Fierce Deserts, in other parts of the world the rarity is Mythical

Originally these were thought to belong to the group of beasts that those from the deserts refer to as "desert demons", however, they were occasional tales of creatures that fit similar descriptions told throughout every other part of the world. In the most recent research, it has been found that these creatures are in fact, descendants of dragons, although, they are likely the result of some form of mixed breeding or inbreeding, due to the notable degenerations, as such, these creatures are also sometimes referred to as Fallen Dragons. Sordan or Fallen dragons come in three distinct varieties : Limbless Dragons, Breathless Dragons, Mindless Dragons, these varieties are categorized from weakest to most dangerous respectively. Limbless Dragons are Sordan who are the furthest removed from dragons, they are often extremely different in terms of appearance from dragons, some may appear akin to serpents, while others could be akin to massive scaled wolves. it should be noted, that whilst they are called limbless, that does not mean they are missing all their limbs, perhaps they are missing just their wings, on the other hand the could be missing both all for limbs and only have their wings. Both Breathless and Mindless dragons are somewhat similar in appearance to dragons, although often smaller and other changed qualities, such as having feathers instead of scales. However, the notable factor of breathless dragons is that they do not have one the ability that dragons are most renowned for, their magical breath, without this, while still a Sarwix, some may simply see it as a large beast. Mindless dragons are the most fearsome of all the Sordan, as the they retain the magical breath of dragon, but lack the intelligence and sapience of dragons, which makes them far more dangerous than the average dragon. It is spoken in legend that once a Dragon had come to Zaveron after they killed what they believed to be a dragon at the time, the dragon thanked the ones to kill the Sordan and gifted them an artifact, this implies that true dragons see Sordan as abominations and are more than willing to kill them themselves.

Undmenn

Found in : Zaveron, mountains & caves

With an appearance of a bat mixed with a tiger, this large nocturnal creature inspires fear within most who come across it, especially since despite its size it is unnaturally stealthy, but in reality this creature is fairly neutral to visitors. However, it should be noted that the creature is aware enough to notice the slightest hint of hostility, if one does come across a Undmenn, sheathe your weapons and calm yourself immediately. While these creatures are rare it is said that an elite and small group of Commanders are known to tame these creatures and perform lightning strikes at night using the Undmenn to swiftly fly in and out of the base.

Xhoueqtl

Found in : Anywhere during full moon, Forests

An elusive creature that one only has a chance of encountering during the night of a full moon within a forest. The moment one lays their eyes on this creature, it is already too late, as this creature is prone to causing any who lay their eyes upon it to be disconnected with reality, seeing all types of visual and auditory illusions, in some cases, caravans are found all being slain by one another the day after a full moon, which is then attributed to the Xhoueqtl. Some Stisedan Medical professions relate this Sarwixs ability akin to drugs that induce extreme psychosis, and without a medical professional on the field, there is no way to cure this other than waiting it out. Luckily, the Xhoueqtl itself is not a creature that seems to harm others intrinsically, thus, the best way to deal with a Xhoueqtl is to hope it leaves and wait out any illusions.

Xiasi (Hand of Death)

Found in : Kelazhur, Ocean waters

About the size of a man and with several chitinous spiked appendages which fold away from the horrific creature forming a hand, of which the creature uses to hold its prey in place before feasting upon its skull. This Sarwix inspires dread upon sailors and travelers that go along the deep ocean water of Kelazhur. While the creature is scarcely seen, even in its natural habitat, they are always met in groups, and once they appear any ship is guaranteed to meet its doom as these cunning creatures seem quite aware that most aboard the ship will be easy meals once the ship is sunk.

Mythical Sarwixs

Forest Sage

Found in : Kelazhur & Zaveron, Forests

One of the few frequently friendly Sarwixs, a tall slender humanoid shape with the horns of a ram, known to help children and “the innocent” who are lost or in dire straits. The Forest sage is extremely odd as an intelligent and wise creature capable of speaking to those it comes across, with many who have seen it believing it to be the temporary physical appearance of an Nature Spirit. What type of person the Forest Sage determines as “innocent” is unknown, but when those helped by it asked why it helped them, it would simply respond that they are innocent. Many researchers and adventurers have tried meeting a Forest Sage with the intent of a long discussion to find out more and simply converse with the creature, but all attempts have seemingly failed.

Flame Wraith

Found in : Near Volcanoes

It is said that these creatures are spawned once a century from the heart of a volcano, and as a being befitting such a birth, it is capable of unleashing flame and lava akin to that of a fire Spirit Contractor. However, it is not their power that one should be afraid us, as they creatures are also capable of casting innate illusion over their being in order to appear as a normal human or Spiritfolk. The only potential giveaway that one is in the presence of a flame wraith is that the person will radiate a minor but notable amount of heat around themselves, not enough to start any fires, but the relative difference between a day in spring and a day in summer. In terms of attempting to slay a flame wraith once you have discovered it, that is a much harder task, they are fairly resilient against physical blows, as such, magical attacks are preferred, however, even with several mages assaulting the flame wraith, it will not accept its demise easily. Once a flame wraith is effectively cornered and near the brink of death, it will release a monumental blow, capable of outperforming even some of the most powerful fire contractors, it is of utmost imperative to prepare to defend oneself from this attack, as after it ends, the flame wraith will completely exhausted and unable to resist any final blow.

Holgak

Found in : Zaveron, Caves

A terrifying and extraordinary deadly creature that is lurking in massive and expansive caves, barely anything is known about this creature as almost everyone to have seen one is rumored to have died. One of the only survivor’s to have met a Holgak, mentioned that before they even saw the creature they had all felt as if the air had been sucked out of their lungs, and in this weakened state, the creature had pounced on them, the only appearance they could make out was a ravenous maw and serrated claws.

Weaver

Found in : Stisedo

The Weaver is a mischievous Sarwix who can magically fly around create similarly levitating thread wherever it goes. That said, it only deploys this thread as a way to annoy or attack a creature, often with the intent to kill. The thread of a Weaver creates audible vibrations, these vibrations becomes louder the more thread there is, with enough it will become deafeningly loud, and if let to continue their weaving, eventually it can get to the point of damaging internal organs. This thread is a part of the Weaver's body, despite this, even if cut and separated, the Weaver will be in a bit of pain, but, mostly unhampered. Additionally, there are certain large points upon its thread, these points are of no importance while the thread is attached the Weaver, but once separated from the Weaver, these points can become new Weavers if left alone for a few days.

For those who encounter a Weaver, an important detail is that a single Weaver is a relative annoyance, as it is a simple task to cut the "thread" before it becomes dangerous, However, a group of Weavers, of which they can sometimes be found within, are exponentially more lethal. It should be noted, that when the Weaver attacks a creature by creating its thread, it does not do so out of a need for food, as the Weaver has no need of sustenance to maintain its body. It is believed that since the Weaver is Asexual, and that new Weavers are created through its thread, that the Weaver intentionally attacks creatures through an incredibly odd act of reproduction.

Around 80 years ago, the Weaver posed as a common threat for almost anyone living within the region where Stisedo stands upon. However, at this time the council had gotten some new blood, of which were looking to making sweeping changes to the region, one such change being the extinction of this nuisance. At the time the knowledge surrounding Irae magic was still quite new, as such the taboo's of Irae magic within Stisedo had yet to be established, as such, the solution the council decided upon, was training and releasing dozens of Irae mages specialized in poison Irae Magic. Magical Poison then flooded the forests, caves, and roads where Weavers were frequently found. The effects were so disastrous on the environment that even today some of these areas have a near non-existent amount of fauna and flora within them.

Yino

Found in : Mainlands, Desolate areas

Originally said to have only lived within what is now the Irae Wastes, However, after the cataclysm they fled to the Mainlands. Luckily, it appears most of these creatures had died in the event, as their names are only whispered once every few decades, for these Sarwix pose an unimaginable threat the more populous they become, as such, any nest of them is destroyed with impunity. Nonetheless, the Yino shares similarities to a spider, the most notable differences being a large skull-like head alongside the creature itself being about the size of a carriage. Each of the Yino's limbs carries a different and specialized venom, with the two front most limbs carrying the most dangerous of the bunch, one is a hallucinogen that is instantly effective, the other is a paralyzant said to last days but takes around an hour to take effect.

Between its size, poisons, and thick exoskeleton, this pales in comparison to the true terror of just one aspect of the Yino, its reproductive cycle. Male Yinos, serve zero actual function to the species, in fact, they lack any of the venoms seen on their female counterparts, the reason for this is that female Yinos reproduce parasitically, in that they lay their eggs within a host. The eggs are laid near the spinal cord (or nervous system counterpart) and quickly entangle themselves within the nervous system of the host, the host then begins to have a subtle but strong desire to strengthen themselves. This is for two reasons, 1, so that the host can better protect themselves and thus the eggs, 2, the Yino born from a host, has its own inherent strength, venom potency, and sometimes even size, inherited from the race/strength of the host. Due to this, there is no true limit to the size of a Yino, the known size is based on Yinos primarily born from Humans or common animals of middling strength, but should a Yino choose another Sarwix as a host, it could be several times larger and more dangerous. Furthermore, despite the eggs being inherently parasitic in goal, whilst embedded in the host, it will mutate the host should its life be endangered, giving the host qualities similar to the Yino such as a thick exoskeleton, and the ability to inject venom, this is seen as a symbiotic act done by the egg in order to continue the survival of both creatures.

Until the point of mutation, it is impossible to tell if one was embedded with Yino eggs, whilst in this state the host is referred to as a Yinar, and should be killed immediately, to prevent the birth of a Yino. Lastly, it is rumored, that once, somehow, a Yino was able to embed its eggs into a dragon centuries ago, it is said the resulting creature nearly destroyed the world.

Legendary Sarwixs

Concept

Found in : Stisedo

According to legends, originally the form of this creature is that of a vaguely humanoid indiscernible figure, only seen from a distance and during the deepest of nights. The following information is unverified, and purely a mixture of legends and conjecture. Nonetheless, this Sarwix got its name from what is believed to be its ability, the first who looks upon this creature, the first thing that comes to mind, the first vague concept, is where its form from there forth shall emerge. From then on the creature goes forth with the purpose and form of the concept in mind, if one thinks of it as a monster, it takes the role of a monster. To worsen matters, it evolves as it takes on its role, as others bear witness to its form, it takes in the concepts of all others which would reinforce its existing concept. It is believed, that the reason the Concept is only found in Stisedo, is the naturally paranoid and pessimistic nature of Stisedans allows this creature to thrive far more than any other.

Dragons

Found in : feasibly anywhere (although less rare in the Spiritfolk continent)

For most Dragons are still considered part of tales or long gone relics of the past, unaware that they are still a vividly real existence within the world. Similar to Spirits, Dragons exist with forces of the world imbued into them, while not equivalent to the raw power of a spirit, most dragons are able to wield their respective element with ease, which is portrayed in their deadliest weapon, their elemental breath. Those who would dare to fight a dragon, perhaps out of necessity or out of a desire to become a "Dragonslayer" should note that most dragons can only be harmed with weaponry which contradicts their natural element, for example, fighting a fire dragon with any weapon other than one imbued with the power of water is the effective equivalent of suicide. Lastly, it is best to keep in mind that a fight is nowhere near the first option that should be considered, as Dragons are highly intelligent, many far more intelligent than the average person, and as such, can potentially be negotiated with, assuming the individual

The Consumed

Found in : feasibly anywhere

It is said that a Consumed is created when a soul of extraordinary willpower carries a grudge so strong, they refuse to be taken by the spirit of death, and remain in the world. Despite grudges naturally a negative emotion, it is believed that due to the interaction with the spirit of death, they become able to avoid contributing to the creation of a Iraeidin, but that is not to say they aren’t an inherently evil being. In a desperate attempt to resolve its grudge, the Consumed will rapidly devour the souls of any living creature it comes across, as time passes and it accumulates hundreds of souls it will take the shape of a large, purple, wisp like bird. While many believe at this point many would believe that such a creature would be noticed by the local authorities, in truth actually confronting the Consumed is an incredibly difficult task, as the moment it devours any nearby souls, it simply disappears. The true extent of the power held by the consumed is not known as only the wake of its destruction is seen, the information of its origin allegedly came directly from a contractor of the spirit of death.
