The Red
Divine or Holy magic, called the Red, is a Magic that has had a difficult past. Red magic currently stands as the only magic that is not directly inherited by their users via natural tendencies or bloodlines (be it latent or active). Because of this Red mages can in some societies be considered cheaters by other magic users, not having to work as hard for their gifts as others but, any Red mage worth their salt knows this to not be the case. Often times these higher powers require gifts or actions of devotion that most common folk would balk at. These demands could even include joining a priesthood, magical contracts, or even dedications of one's eternal soul to the power.
While the connotations of Divine or holy magic typically denote forces for good in Ipsum these sources can also represent the dieties and otherworldly beings of evil. For this reason and from many poor examples from the history of the continent this category has gained the denotation of the most aggressive of the primary colors. The term Red Mage is not a positive connotation and most of the lands population do not take kindly to holy magic users no matter where their source of power comes from. Because of this fact and the memories of the past Red magic users are amongst the rarest and most secretive.
A notable exception would be the city state of High Del, a massive city and holy site claiming to be the first city of the world founded by the gods. With their marvelous feats of architecture and miracles citizens of High Del tend to keep to the strict tenants of their pantheon of gods within their day to day lives.
While otherworldly beings control this magic and can often be attributed with powerful casting there are still limits a mortal's body can handle. If a Red user tries to channel too much divine energy there is always the chance of them burning not only their mortal form but also their soul rendering it assunder. Additionally these powerful magics, often associated with the most powerful of healing magic are unable to bring back or prevent death. With that being said, there are always rumours throught the ages that small groups of mages of all colors are able to do so or hunting for the secrets of life and death.
