What is Ohmi? (oe-m-ee)

Ohmi is the system of magic that exists within Iorasica. It resides within animate objects such as plants, animals, insects, and sapient beings. It can also be found naturally in inanimate objects but is limited to earth and water. Ohmi is a type of energy that is pliable. Some things possess greater amounts than others, but many factors contribute to why a living thing might contain more than another. Factors that affect the amount of Ohmi possessed include geographical location, transference of Ohmi from one living or non-living thing to another, or inheritance through conception. There is a limit, however, to how much an animate object can possess. If imbued correctly, inanimate objects don't have a limit to how much Ohmi they can contain.   The sapient beings of Iorasica were taught that Ohmi was a type of energy that could be harnessed and expelled for many uses. This knowledge led to the creation of the Didachē Archē. Sapient beings uncovered many ways for its use and how everyday life had a use for it.   After years of observation and experience with harnessing Ohmi, it became known that living things had a determined limit. They had also noticed that it took time for it to regenerate after being expelled and realized it was possible to discharge more than what they possessed. Symptoms ranged from lethargy, confusion, nose bleeds, severe headaches, vision problems, and chest pains. In acute cases of depletion, it was possible to experience a stroke or death. Those who harbored more Ohmi than others would less often experience these symptoms. They would therefore be able to use Ohmi with little to no drawbacks depending on the incantation. Those who possessed less would often find themselves in a weakened state for days if not months at a time had they used more than their body could restore. This dilemma led those who had less to extract Ohmi from their surroundings. Their surroundings included plant life, animals, insects, the earth, and water to lessen the severity of Ohmi depletion.   Many disagreed with these methods as they believed that constantly extracting Ohmi from sources other than one's own would negatively affect the balance of life around them if exhausted beyond natural restoration. Those who agreed to distill Ohmi from other sources asserted that it would bring equality to those less fortunate, and it would minimize the risk of severe symptoms from depleted Ohmi. As time went on, disagreements came about on how Ohmi was to be extracted and used.
