The Naga

The Naga is a nameless creature created via the magical energy harnessed from the sun by the rulers of the city. Only it remains. It's purpose was to protect the magical secrets of the solar obelisks and the citizens of the city. With the absence of any other living thinking creature for hundreds of miles, possibly all of the desert, it is without true purpose. It's only constant is the city-wide solar golems that now register it as the highest authority in the city.

Born of man's hubris, it was exempt from the punishment of overusing the Sun's energy without permission. They were made from its magic, and understood the price when it was paid. So now they stare into the black quartz of the central sun obelisk in its free time.

In recent years, something resurfaced in the desert and Yuan-ti have gone looking around the ruins and have taken interest in possible underground temples long forgotten from ancestors. The Naga hates Yuan-ti - as most Guardian Naga's do - and has guards on patrol during the day while it explores and seals as many underground temples as it can reach. The Naga is pretty big though, but the desert is pretty self-sealing what with all the loose sand.

The Naga is very familiar with the history of the Yuan-ti. They were alive during the creation of the first Yuan-ti. Ferradd Ader, whose descendants have ruled all of major houses that have come into religious authority, orchestrated the religious schism that would drive humans underground in pursuit of greater divine beings to draw power from. He believed relying solely on the sun to provide for them made them grow complacent and; instead, they should be aiming to surpass it and become a race of gods. Ader and his followers rejected solar energy and moved underground, saving them from the cleanse to follow, and began abusing magic in an even more twisted way. Underground, Ader discovered ruins of temples to serpent gods long dead and forgotten of which he made the basis of his ideology.
