Worldember Prep 2025
Here We Go Again!
It's WorldEmber time again, and time to get prepped for the big push at the end of the year. But here's the thing - I live the #AlwaysWorldEmber lifestyle. I write every day. In a typical month, I beat the 25k goal - and that makes prepping for WorldEmber a little weird for me - because that's just how I'm going all the time. I do push a little harder during December - but the prep is always done, because I'm always there.
But we can still look at the bingo card and see if there's anything to do - continuous improvement is my motto, after all.
OK. Not going to go through all of these, but I think we can check a few off.
- Find an Accountability Buddy: This is super important to my ongoing writing - and as a result, I have a bunch of them, both in the WorldAnvil community and outside it. Writing is an important mental health practice for me, and if I skip a day, I would have a bunch of people checking in, from my spouse, to my good friends in the Storyteller's Circle, and several others. As of this writing, I'm on day 794 of my writing streak, and knowing that there are people watching for my daily article is a big reason I've not skipped in that time.
- Make a list of stubs to expand: This is the core of my WorldEmber activity and I have a list. My largest world has over 200 articles under 50 words, and my other worlds have a few as well. During WorldEmber, I write my daily article, and then spend some time each day expanding those stubs with notes and ideas to flesh out later. Last year, I expanded about a hundred articles or so in that fashion, and then used those notes throughout the year to support my daily writing. And here is a good time to shout out the incredibly useful tool Brigid by the incredible Hanhula - I depend on it all year long, but never more than during WorldEmber to give me easy access to all those stubs.
- Finish all your unfinished articles: *maniacal laughter* - Yeah, no. I planned too big for that in the Million Islands, and my other worlds are little better in that regard. That would be a multiple year endeavor, and while I'm working on it, it's not happening in the next three and half weeks.
- Go for a walk: Good advice. I do it every day.
- Tidy up your writing space: But then I'd be tidying, not writing - and besides, didn't they say a clean desk is a sign of a sick mind? I'm crazy enough as it is. I like my clutter - it's inspiring.
- Join the Community: Did that. Happy I did. I'm not super vocal on the WA discord, but I truly value the people I've met through there, especially the magnificent members of the Storyteller's Circle - you know who you are.
Well, that's theoretically enough entries to win Bingo - maybe I'll rearrange the card and claim victory. It's certainly enough for tonight. In the meantime, time to pledge my goal:
25k Words
Last year, I hit 50k and I may do it again. But I'm absolutely confident of hitting 25k, and that's what I'm going to pledge for.
And with that, I'm off to bed, perchance to dream - good luck to you all during WorldEmber!

o.O 794, that's amazing! Best of luck with your goal, I have no doubt you'll reach it!
