Medal of Heroism
The Medal of Heroism is the Caniic Hierarchy's highest and most prestigious military decoration awarded to recognize caniic servicemen and women who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism. The medal is awarded by the Governor-General, it is often referred to (erroneously) as the "Hierarchy Medal of Heroism".
History
During the Sauruanian Contact War (1987-2001) a proposal for a battlefield decoration for valor was submitted to Colonel General Eiriia Suriic, the Chief of Command of the Hierarchy Army and Navy, by Colonel Waviir 'One Eye' Samiten, an assistant adjutant at the Department of the Military and Suriic's chief of staff. Suriic, however, was strictly against medals being awarded, which was the Hazurian tradition. After Suriic retired from active service in June 2000, his successor, Chief of the Army and Navy Vericaxianara Ixion adopted the idea of a decoration to recognize and honor distinguished service personnel.
The adoption of the medal took a full year to be formally approved by the Military Council, and in a vote of 147 to 13, the adoption of a military decoration of valor was passed, with the very first Medal being awarded on Aprel 19, 2001 to recognize twenty-five serviceman and fourteen servicewomen for heroic acts during the Sauruanian Contact War. However, only three men and one woman had survived the war, to recieve the Medal.

Since 2001, the Medal of Heroism has been attached to a midnight red colored matte silk neck ribbon that is 1 3⁄16 in (30 mm) in width and 21 3⁄4 in (550 mm) in length. The center of the ribbon displays sixteen gold stars in the form of four chevron. The top chevron and both middle chevrons are made up of 5 stars, with the bottom chevron made of only one star. The Medal of Heroism is one of only three Hierarchy military awards suspended from a neck ribbon. The other two are the Admiral's Service of Merit, and the Hierarchy Degree of Distinguished Honor, and are usually awarded to individuals serving foreign governments.
On September 11, 2019, Representative Assemby authorized a "ribbon to be worn with the medal and a rosette to be worn in lieu of the medal." The service ribbon is midnight red with eight gold stars. It is placed first in the top position in the order of precedence and is worn for situations of full-dress military uniform. The lapel button is a 1⁄2-inch (13 mm), seven-sided midnight red bowknot rosette with sixteen gold stars and may be worn on appropriate civilian clothing on the left lapel.
