Dragon
Mighty beasts of scale and fire, dragons are the highest tier of living beings in existence. Especially if you ask a dragon. These great creatures can live nearly indefinitely, command powerful magical abilities, and can control aspects of the environment and elements based on their subtype. There is no friend more true and no enemy more terrible, so treat all interactions with them very seriously.

History
Dragons once ruled much of the prime material plane, however this changed once the Elves finished establishing their colonies on Toril. They would plague the early colonists in massive flights of dragons and burn down towns, steal livestock, and generally just prevent any of their lands from being inhabited by competing creatures. The Elves built the Dracorage Mythal, which would draw power from they King-Killer Star to protect Elven towns from the dragons and limit their activities throughout Toril. However, every century or so the star would move out of range, allowing all the built up rage of the dragons to be unleashed all at once for several days to weeks. After Nagamat was slain, split in twain by a re-purposed defense cannon, the dragons split into two faction. An order of goodly dragons lead by Bahamut, and evil dragons lead by Tiamat. Their war has raged on ever since.
