Veilroot
Known Region
Veilroot grows specifically in the Shrouded Valleys. They are mist shrouded, mysterious valleys between peaks of the Serrathian Mountians. Due to its rough interior, scrying spells tend to not work in this area. Veilroot grows at the base of specific trees in the valleys called Shaehollows. The locals of the valley seem dimmer than usual folk in the surrounding regions.They seem dimmer, the lanterns in the street seem dimmer, it's as if their spark has been diminished.
Properties
I had a hard time finding this root as I can't just use a spell to locate the plant. Much to debate: this plant can only nullify magic, not dispel it. The use of this root in anti-detection magicks is invaluable as it is not able to be detected by any type of magic. This even goes for spells that use an identify component. One must turn to boring science experiments and botanical analysis...As An Alchemy Ingredient
Used most often in the Potion of Veiled Mind, this potion is used as a catalyst for anti-detection magicks.
I still very much hate this plant.
Gathering and Preparation Instructions
Best harvested during a New Moon. Must be gathered with bone tools, otherwise it will wilt and die. To prepare: rinse with moon water under starlight. Then dry in the cover of night (or in a dark place) for 48 hours. Then grind the leaves with a mortar and pestle. The mortar and pestle must be made of bone or some sort of purified stone. Store in container made of bone.The general thing about this plant is that most things you use with it require them to be bone. This can get quite expensive. Unless you know the right people.
I am loving this project Daeni, the style, the delivery narratively, the field note style art, and the little bits of commentary as quotes. I laughed at the sudden "I still hate this plant" the placement for that is perfect, and I don't blame our apothecary narrator/guide at all, given the description of the challenges of finding it. Most definitely slipping this one into my collection. After all you never know when something that can nullify and protect from scrying magicks can be helpful!
