Soul Marble

Known Region

As far as I'm aware, Soul Marbles are able to form anywhere where there is grave soil. Not much is known about where they actually come from. Green is the most common colour found with different colours becoming increasingly rare. Every single marble is unique in some way anyway, much like fingerprints. That being said, please do not collect them by yourself. There are conditions that must be met for collecting them that I will outline later.

ESPECIALLY DO NOT DIG UP GRAVES FOR THEM. You risk angering the spirits of the person who's grave you dug up, plus its sort of illegal. Well, not sort of. It most definitely is illegal.

Properties

As stated above, each of them are entirely unique and come in a variety of colours. One of the uses for this surprisingly hollow mineral is using it in potions that allow one to communicate with the dearly departed. That being said, the marble does not contact the person whose grave the marble was found on. Soul Marbles are the safest way to bridge the gap between the veil. A thing to note, is that though it's called a soul marble, it does not hold a soul nor is it able to be used as a vessel for one. Many mediums and oneiromancers use them as decorations and adornments. Something about the appearances?

..As An Alchemy Ingredient

Oddly enough, one of the alchemy uses is in a candle, called Guardian Candles. Guardian Candles are pretty much what they sound like, in terms of use. Some believe that if they find a marble on an ancestors grave, that they are to use it at the base of a candle that is lit during weddings, births, and last rites. It is also used in a potion called Whisperdraft Tonic. This potion allows for the understanding of any language for a little while. Gravebloom Essence is another potion that uses them. The potion allows for a short conversation with the dead.

Gathering and Preparation Instructions

The first thing you need to know about this mineral is that it takes quite a long time to grow. Usually around a century. Now, as I mentioned it is extremely illegal to dig up graves. Not to mention incredibly disrespectful. I usually obtain the ones I have by donation. Some find it too hard to have them around. I rarely, but still find some in toy bins. Or, I obtain permission from the family of the departed. Something you must always do when obtaining them from grave soil is to offer a coin or two to the spirit or a small white flower. Cleansing the marble is paramount to being able to use it. Never wash the marble under running water. Instead, use smoke from incense made of various funeral flowers. Store in a velvet case and keep away from erratic unbound soul magic. As for preparation to be used, in guardian candles you want to leave the marble whole. For potions, the marble must be crushed between two century-old coins.
I don't sell them on their own. It's taboo to do so. I am usually brought the marbles and asked to make these items for the family the brings them or I use them as intended. I do, however, have a golden one I happened to find in a toy bin years ago.
