Known Region
The largest deposits I have found of this mineral was on an island in the lake to the east. Seems as though they grow in places of intense heat. The cave on the island is host to some natural hot springs.
I doubt many know about the hot springs. Lovely place to soak after a hard day. I often take little vacations in that area.
Properties
Pyrestone Shard can be crushed with a mortar and pestle. The crystal itself emits a soft glow, as if warmed by a fire on the inside. In addition, it radiates a gentle heat. Generally used for its warmth.
..As an Alchemy Ingredient
I use it in various potions of warmth and often use it in magical item enchantments. Most notably, it has been a wonderful addition to the Ashwind Draught.
-potions fizz due to Pyrestone Shard powder.
-use in spas and bathhouses questionable as to its sustainment.
-carve and polish small flat squares to fit under winter garments.
Gathering and Preparation Instructions
Luckily, crystals and the like are fairly easy to obtain and gather. The environment is the biggest factor in gathering any rock or elemental ingredient. Use a magical mortar and pestle to grind the mineral to a fine powder but, if you only have a manual one, that's fine, you will gain the same effect.
I've even added the powder to honey and lemon for sore throats.
