Kraken Ink

Known Region

Known for hanging out in the trench close to the Tidecaller's cities, Krakens tend to dwell in the deepest reaches of the oceans. Whether that be colossal kelp forests or the Tidecaller's Trench. Leviathans of this size and more possibly live down there. While Kraken's Ink is the most potent and efficient for its needs, Giant Squid Ink is also acceptable.

Properties

Kraken Ink is used for illusion and shadow magicks and is often used and prized by many diplomats and spies. The ink is invisible when dry and only able to be seen with a specific spell and passphrase. The passphrase is determined by the alchemist who makes the ink itself. There is also bits of umbric residue within the ink and Umbramancers are able to make the residue solidify and meld to their wills.

Once there was an Umbramancer who escaped imprisonment by receiving a letter with Pure Kraken Ink on it and was able to form tools and a weapon to escape.

..As An Alchemy Ingredient

As previously mentioned, ink and espionage. The Pure Kraken ink is the prized quality. Next is Giant Squid Ink, followed by common octopus ink. Can also be made into paint and is often used in the Draught of Living Shadows.

Gathering and Preparation Instructions

As unfortunate as it is for some to be able to find a source, hunting these creatures is strictly forbidden. You'll have to either use Umbramancy to collect it or sift it out of the ocean water.

I have a very good source for Kraken Ink. His name is Kevin and all you really have to do is ask him nicely. In return he asks for light potions. I like to make them different colours for him.
