Dreadlion Mane Hair

Known Region

Dreadlions live in shadow bound savannahs and places where no other predator dwells. More recent sightings have placed them in the Umbra Savannah and Ashen Wilds. Due to the Dreadlion's volatile nature, gathering shedded mane hair is probably the best for your safety. Encountering a Dreadlion is both the highest honor in those places and a death sentence for someone by themselves.

Properties

Few alchemist's work with this material, and fewer survive the attempt to obtain it. The colour of the mane shifts depending on the lighting. During the day, it's such a dark purple that it's almost black. In the moonlight silver can be seen cascading through it, and it glows a vibrant purple in firelight. Dreadlion mane hair acts as a conduit for fearlessness and courage. Many of the alchemists who use it put it into intimidation spells. I use it top beat volatile materials into submission by mixing a few hairs into a potion.

..As An Alchemy Ingredient

Potions it can be in include the Elixir of Dreadless Resolve, Tonic of Echoed Roar and is often woven into braids and kept in amulets for protection. Can be woven into hair ornaments and armor for courage and bravery in battle. It is used as part of the strings that hold together war drums as it amplifies the intimidation of those drums. The hair can also be woven into dreamkeepers for its use in fighting night terrors.

Gathering and Preparation Instructions

Here's the secret to my gathering. When Veevi starts shedding, the Dreadlions are also shedding at the same time and that's when you go out looking for this material. Wrap with sliver thread in order to keep the intimidation attunement at bay. To weaken the fear aura around it, place in a dish of moonwater for three days and two nights. Do not gather directly from the source. You will die.
