PGE

Written by LIBRARIAN Arie

Permanent Genetic Evolution, or PGE is an extremely rare version of cancer in which the host is slowly taken over by freak cells that transform them into an entirely different entity. It is thought that it is more common than it seems, but a host may have the cancerous cells for hundreds of years before they take root, in which, throughout dozens of years, the host's cells are taken over by replacement cells, and it often transforms the host into a bipedal creature that resembles a "Furry." This is less of a disease and more of a slow cancer that does not harm the host, though it normally forms in creatures that have lived long passed their normal life span, allowing the cells to evolve, or especially lifeforms exposed to mutagenic weaponry without known symptoms.

(Ok, lets be honest. I'm just trying to add furries. Be real.)

Transmission & Vectors

Mostly untransmissible, unless a sample of the freak cell's DNA is taken and injected into the target

Causes

Can be gained through exposure to mutagenic weaponry or certain mutagenic, and normally sacred, plants.

Symptoms

  1. host skin may grow more hair or become rough
  2. eyes may begin to change
  3. skin change increases
  4. internal cells altered biology
  5. the skin may break into intense rashes if reptilian, or mammalian; hair will begin to grow thick
  6. the skeletal structure may begin to alter
  7. intense pains as bones begin to grow in unnatural ways
  8. full coat of fur, or skin may begin to be replaced by keratin
  9. skin breaks into full scales if reptilian
  10. muzzle fully developed (if there is one)

. may grow tail

. may have elongated or animalistic ears

Treatment

general cancer treatment to kill the affected cells, there is a more effective, but much more expensive treatment that is less collaterally damaging.

(the cells may die off and transformation back to original form may occur)

Prognosis

  1. host skin may grow more hair or become rough
  2. eyes may begin to change
  3. skin change increases
  4. internal cells altered biology
  5. the skin may break into intense rashes if reptilian, or mammalian; hair will begin to grow thick
  6. the skeletal structure may begin to alter
  7. intense pains as bones begin to grow in unnatural ways
  8. full coat of fur, or skin may begin to be replaced by keratin
  9. skin breaks into full scales if reptilian
  10. muzzle fully developed (if there is one)

Sequela

it is unknown if it affects base cancer.

Affected Groups

anyone can be a host; it takes a while for anything to happen

Hosts & Carriers

humans are the main known hosts

Prevention

The host is born with it; there is no prevention or contagion.

Epidemiology

again, PGE does not spread naturally

History

The first recorded case was Arios, Grand General of Infranity. he closely resembles a red dnd Dragonborn, and, at the current moment, he seems fully transformed

Cultural Reception

The effected are sometimes revered, since the effects normally come on later in life, the victims are often revered as incredibly wise and connected to nature.
