Leaving WorldAnvil - For Now
So, as the title says, I am leaving the site. The biggest reason for this is I don't have practically any money for myself at the moment. I don't work, and my family is responsible for my disability paycheck that's basically entirely being used for essentials. For now, this means that now that I am nearing the article limit, that I wasn't aware existed until recently,
As a result, I cannot continue using this site until, likely, I am making money from my writing. However, there is also something I am working on in the background I must address and feel like just saying bluntly now.
I used AI to assist my writing on some of the pages I wrote for WorldEmber 2024. This was what I am going to make a video discussing in depth. To keep it brief for this article though, I now heavily regret using AI in ANY way. The video will be dissecting exactly where AI was used and some of the reasons that I am genuinely sorry for using it now. Not the least of which being that now, it will be very difficult for people to get invested in the project in the future.
I think to help this, I will try to stream some of my writing sessions once I've made this video dressing myself down for the AI usage. As for my stance now, I think AI at worst is a tool that lets lazy writers make the whole story via it, and at least, is doing things that a simple google search or grammar assistant tool could do for far less computing resources, which directly relates to the amount of water needed for keeping generative AI servers cooled. Now those grammar tools are arguably covering up your ability to be a better writer too from a few videos I've been looking through lately, but regardless, I do not think less of writers who use either of these tools, as long as they directly say so. ESPECIALLY in the case of AI. That shit requires you to be incredibly transparent and even then, a lot of people will not want to hear you out as soon as AI is mentioned.
So yeah. Until I can generate revenue from writing in some way, this is where I'm going to leave my WorldAnvil page. I intend to re-write many of the articles offsite regardless, and for now, keep the existing pages as a history of the evolution of the project. This is because I knew when I started using Anvil that I was NOT a great writer. I needed to hone my work with practice and learned that I need to expect that I will want to re-write some parts of the story, and that when I do get the beginning to a place that I'm comfortable with, I still will grow further with any additional books I get to write.
I hope that this ends up being the darkest moment for my writing projects. I hope as well that you can forgive what I've done and still find interest in what I release, and most of all, I hope that you can understand more soon about how existential some of the problems AI can present to our profession when I release the video and show some of the sources for my information.
That will be over on my Youtube @ WesternEclipse, same on Twitch if you want to see future writing livestreams, though I'm also going to be continuing to play a variety of games on there too. For now, I bid farewell! Hopefully I'll actually start growing as a writer. The Summer Camp entry was without any AI assistance, and I'm starting to develop the Western Dragoon as the first character Eclipse and Chronias must come across, along with his characteristics and most importantly, his earthly origins and how they connect to the torture he was given in hell.
I may still use the already existing pages like the Blackboard for updates. That's all for now though. Thank you for any time and investment reading so far, and I hope you can still enjoy the project whenever I have something complete to show of it. I don't blame anyone who decides to drop the project because of the info in this article or the upcoming video. I just hope that I can prove just how much I regret and want to make up for my mistake by putting the whole AI industry on blast. Potentially in more than one video even. If this is where you leave the project and my channels, I understand and wish you the best. For those that stick around though, I hope the mystery will be worth the wait.
