Illuminare Guards

Following the fading of that breath-taking tower from view, Chronias and Eclipse were in the Solaris Detective Agency again. This time there were in fact several chairs opposite of Eclipse's spinning mobile chair. It was raining outside, the world seemingly far grimier. Did, Eclipse himself change that? Suddenly, a thought came to the red dragon's mind, still reeling from the experience a little.

"Eclipse? I encountered something strange on the way here. Can you hear me?" From the outside it looked like Eclipse had been asleep. Suddenly with a deep inhale he came back to life with a bit of hyperventilating. Chronias rose from his seat quick as he could to be by his side. "ECLIPSE!?"

With a paw, now resembling that of a feline, he slowly comforted Chronias' shoulder. "I.. know it's weird to get used to. However, creating Lagharia takes a lot of energy from me. I will just take time to catch my breath while you recant your experience."

Chronias couldn't help but roll his eyes a little at the flowery language. He'd always had this flair for the dramatic. Now however was not the time to linger. "So, before I got here, I was reading from this information kiosk. I suppose it could've just been Calypso's spell and all, but... once it got to a certain point in the entry, the thing actually exploded! Is that something we should worry about at all?"

Suddenly Eclipse became very alert in his seat. His breathing turned silent, and he became directly upright in his chair, palms holding him in place on his lacquered desk. "Chronias, what entry were you attempting to read?"

"It I believe, was on Calypso himself. Is there something special about him that would cause that?"

Eclipse gets up and puts his paws on Chronias' shoulders firmly. Barely towering over his partner. "We are in danger! We must quickly return to Lagharia!" The infinity symbol on his forehead returns, but Chronias hesitates.

"What? What will returning do?" Eclipse impatiently grabs his partner's paw and places it on his forehead to cause the transfer again. They both were knocked out again.

When Chronias closes his eyes, it took some time, but the base of the Obsidian Spiral formed again of the nothing behind his closed eyes. Then, the view of the world was the same with eyes closed or open once again. Realizing he was forced here, Chronias readies to talk down his partner in frustration. The look of terror and tears streaming down Eclipse's face however immediately disarmed him, and he went to him on this little patch of obsidian stone they'd been placed on. The storm clouds stirred slightly, and rain flowed onto them.

"I'm sorry love, so so very sorry. Time outside freezes when we enter to this place. We must prepare for the guards of the Infinitum Solari."

"Infinitum Solari? Guards? Of what? I didn't harm anyone! It was just an event that happened!"

"The Infinitum Solari oftentimes will destroy sources of information that can let us know about him. He is our enemy! So of course, he would not want us to know much about him or his troops!"

"Troops? Eclipse, you're speaking as though this is a war..." It then hit Chronias exactly what his partner was trying to say. "Wh... that's... exactly it isn't it? You're... not an angel at all, are you?" Eclipse could feel the fear creep up on his partner again and insisted.

"I AM an angel. That's exactly the issue. It is a crime of treason to research on him. That entry is naught but a trap to capture demons not being controlled by an apostle for purification. He will know I did not choose to dominate your mind to get you here."

"Wait, 'dominate your mind?' That's standard procedure for holding demons in Infinitum City!?"

"See dear, he IS the subconscious mind and conscious mind while we traverse his city. There are many of the Solari who are technically inclined that sift through the 'code of our minds' without our consent and transmit it to him. Once offenders are found, they dispatch the Illuminare Guard."

"What exactly is it they guard?"

"A lot. The city, information, those who engage with the demons here on Infinitum for rehabilitation..."

That word stuck out to Chronias and he needed to ask. "R... rehabilitation? Is that why you compelled me to find you? Helped me to get the information I needed to discover the portal that would take us to Infinitum? Wouldn't that just mean, adhering to the rule of a mad titan?"

"We are today fanning the flames of rebellion. I don't seek to..." Suddenly Chronias gets up and slaps Eclipse's cheek. He gives the man a stern look with his hazel eyes suddenly seeming akin to daggers. Trying to fully pierce the veil of who, and what Eclipse had truly become.

"I was never told we were involved in something so serious, as WAR. Now, was I?" Eclipse couldn't muster more than a timid shaking of his head. Chronias offers a sigh and shook his own head. "Was this inevitable? Could you have changed it at all?"

"That is what I seek to learn. To find if our efforts to change fate are in fact inevitable. If his strings bind us no matter where or when we are."

"And this requires a WAR with .... him?"

"Questioning his might is seen as a war by default. There are many rebellions quelled with a simple snap of his fingers. Yet some he allows to happen right under his omniscient nose. It doesn't make any amount of sense to me. Take our current abode for example. Surely the Illuminare should be able to enter or to apprehend our unconscious bodies. However, whilst they are shaped by his will akin to a potter's clay, they have limits which he himself does not."

"That 'potter's clay' thing is a Christian bible analogy, isn't it? Jerimiah 18 I think to be exact?" Chronias takes a moment to lay back on the brick, his head slightly propped up by Eclipse's leg as he sits, his partner cross legged and wiping his tears. As if by command, a cloud grows into what makes a nice cushion underneath their bodies to meet the needs of the reeling dragon.

"So... he... really is just... God... isn't he?" A solemn look upon Eclipse's face whilst he dries his tears with his palm, follows a slow nod. "So... Oh god, Eclipse... I ruined your afterlife, didn't I?! How could I have been so selfi..." Eclipse cuts him off with a quick kiss on the lips, their faces at different angles with Eclipse above his lover's head. It felt like a kiss Spiderman would give to Marry Jane. Then he falls back in his seat a bit, caressing his lover's cheek.

"This is my action alone. I wished to seek you out against the will of my savior. Any punishment that follows is mine to bear alone."

You always just seek to take the blame alone... Chronias thinks to himself, knowing the wyvern aside from him will detect it. "Well, if this is a fate we are already locked into, what should we expect from these, Illuminare Guards?"

Composition

Manpower

An Illuminare response squad is how they are most often seen by the public. Typically, a retrieval squad varies from 5-10 within city grounds. As most offenders will be in a haze from Calypso's enchantments anyways, even creatures typically able to overpower the guards will be in too weak a state to resist. Either that, or they are angels, who are morally inclined to submit majority of the time. So, any more are only reserved for highly dangerous threats. At tops for an in-city response team, you can expect a max of 50 Illuminare on site. That is likely the size they will send to apprehend us.

Once we are within Infinitum's Council District, there is no hope for resistance. Countless elite guardsmen and security details patrol the courts on foot as well as through surveillance cameras and security. At this point in time, even just one powerful enough guardsman is enough to dispatch me by literally shriveling the core of my being with light. They are just sadly, on an entirely different level.

Equipment

Those Illuminare who are on patrol often take the apparel of the section of Infinitum they are in. So here, they carry body armor and trench coats. As with many angels, they have an electromagnetic field around them, which causes their equipment to glow white or yellow. Their bowler hats, while sturdy on earth, tend to be standard issue means of transforming to cover the entire body in angelic steel if they feel truly in danger. The only reason I know is because I remember, a few resets ago, I actually found the strength to concentrate some dark matter into a knife and hurl it at one. The transformation was so fast as to be instantaneous. As you can tell from us being here... it didn't exactly work.

There's also often some form of herald's call themed on the area of Infinitum they are in. Here in the Noir District, it's often a lapel walkie-talkie.

Once we get to the council district, they intentionally enchant their gear to make it so they cannot be seen. They will appear as nothing more than blurs, though we will be able to hear and understand necessary commands. Yes, we are going to be taken in. Try not to panic love. They don't tend to do executions for treason. It's ultimately all part of the plan.

Weaponry

Weaponry does often differ based on their location in Infinitum too. The members of the Noir District Guard use handguns. They fire holy bullets, which can incapacitate or slay depending on their intent. The bullet actually reads the intent of the firer to make that choice. The weapons also have natural silencers which makes them especially deadly.

Luckily, they only fire upon those who actively resist arrest that pose a real threat. At this point, even if we did try to fight back, it's likely they would descend upon us easily without having to fire a single shot. They may use tasers which are fueled by that "holy aura" I refer to as an electromagnetic field. That sadly is more likely. There are unfortunately those in their ranks who abuse their power. How do they retain their positions and angelhood if he sees all their actions? One of Infinitum's many mysteries I'm afraid. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer, but thankfully, if they attack you, you have an electromagnetic field too, don't you love?

Vehicles

Often times, when they are seen in public, the Illuminare come in only one vehicle. Do you remember those Falcon Knight Roadsters from that company that seemed to go out of business as soon as they released their main vehicle? Imagine one in white with gold trims that glow in the night. That will be what they show up in at the scene of any crime. It tends to clash with the aesthetic of this place a lot but that's to help them stand out. They actually have a side weapon attached to the cars too. A roof mounted tommy gun which operates much the same way as their handguns, same kind of intent-based functions.

The troops use it for transport to a portion of the city covered in complete darkness. These separate the districts of infinitum, and only the Illuminare can clear you for travel to another district. That's right dear. Even in heaven there is still a bureaucracy. It does seem rather pointless, but it's important for him to maintain his control. There are some good reasons for it after all.

The scariest part is that the headlights have been known to disintegrate beings entirely on their own. Just keep me away from them and everything should be fine. Hopefully they will turn them off for courtesy while escorting us out.

Structure

The district guard are at the bottom of the totem pole. Approximately 500 per district with extra added if a particularly dangerous demon is scheduled to be brought up for rehabilitation.

Next are the Council Guard who are in a league of their own. Their exact numbers are a mystery in of itself, however I feel like I've sensed millions of them, if not more. That's why going there is so difficult for me until entering the council chambers. Yes, I've been there before. It's where you face down him as he is judging you. You, judged yourself more than any of them at that point? Yeah, me too.

The final rank that I know of for certain, though the council members and personal heralds for him are probably in a league of their own still, are the Astral Illuminare. These are the technological backbone and surveillance experts. I was told a bit about them in passing while being judged, but there's little I know other than that at this point.

You think you'd like to see how your skills match up to one? Oh, dear Chronias, do you really have to make this of all things into a game?

Tactics

Typically, the district guard do not shoot to kill, or even to harm physically. They in a way, can literally sap your motivation to act. This has resulted in some being taken over by a disease known as overshadowing. We can get more into detail on that later. I... dear I promise it's not to hide things... we may seem like we can stay here forever, but.... yes... I suppose you know the stakes better than anyone. I will tell you all of this eventually, I promise. There is just so much to discuss.

They don't tend to need to overwhelm in numbers. Instead, forcing submission through pure power. There is some means of their power, but it is all granted by him. We don't know the exact method of it, but often even just a stare can force a demon to penance. Which often incapacitates one long enough to be transported.

Is trapping one in an illusion not just what the overshadowing does? How... did you remember what that was?

I wonder at this point if the Astral Illuminare are able to even pick up on our communications in here. How else could we randomly remember odd tidbits of information like this? How though.... I thought this plan was foolproof. We will likely have more time soon to figure that part out. Perhaps you are right and I'm being paranoid. However, paranoia may be what keeps up alive when against a force that barely needs lift a finger to dispatch you.

Training

Usually those who were trained for things such as law enforcement and on the ground first response organizations in life are given first pick for Illuminare positions. There are, seemingly ways for code rats to jump all the way to the top of the food chain as well if they have experience in coding that kept people alive, such as modern-day hacking teams on earth. The sophistication of their level of security is hard to even fathom. They can almost, seemingly, make concepts into code to protect their information. This is how I too am training. To find ways we can code this way with aetherite brick.

Why were we not considered for the Illuminare? Well, think about it for a moment Chronias.

Why would we ever wish to work with the group who killed us?
