Pimaia (Pym-ay-yah)

Pimaia is a thriving city on the eastern coast of Kormyr, located squarely between the regions known as the Jade Expanse, the Surridge mountains, And the Vyrin Gulf. Historically, it is known to be a city of unity of several major humanoid races- Namely Humans, Elves, and Dwarves, as founders of the city. Governors of Pimaia are also engaging in diplomatic relationships with Merfolk, and sea trade.

Government

Pimaia is ruled by a Council of 25 members, 6 of which are each human, elf, and dwarf. The remaining 7 Council members are divided amongst the remaining races, based on the less populous races' percentage of the overall population. The Council holds their floor at the top of the central tower in the middle of the city, known as "The Spire". Legislation is passed or halted through a 4/5ths majority vote, and covers the city-wide legislation, while Council members generally govern over their own races' districts, of which there are four - One each for Elves to the North, Dwarves to the South, Humans to the East, and the General Populace district in the West.

Military

Pimaia's military is sizeable, and known for their diverse fighting structure. Elven Keenness, Human Adaptability, and Dwarven Engineering lead to strong bowmen, militia, and infantry in the field, though the focus on people-driven armies has left siege rather weak in comparison to cities of equal size to Pimaia. Though small, Pimaia's walls are generally known to be well-defended against monster attacks- Even the farmlands surrounding Pimaia are rather quiet.

Relationships

Pimaia is a close contender in economic success with Drakesborough, but seems to constantly be playing a game of catch-up with their southern rival. Pimaia tends to remain neutral in most conflicts with other cities, serving mostly as a trade hub for other cities further inland. Their reliance on other cities' exports and slow diplomatic relation building with the Merfolk, however, seems to be their downfall in competition with Drakesborough.   Common exports from Pimaia are general luxuries, whether fished, farm-grown, or mined from the Surridge Mountains. Pimaia often imports Silver Equipment from Sivaton, and masonry from Altan.

Life

The life of an average Pimaian citizen is not one of squalor- Most will find comfort in their homes and a fire to warm their nights, and food enough to keep the family happy- 10% of the population is noble in terms of wealth, and generally live in the higher-class neighborhoods closer to the spire. Life of luxury is often far from any conflict, and generally only shared by business owners, crime leaders, and family of Council Members.   Crime in Pimaia is generally very quiet - Smuggling rings, people trafficking, slavery and assassinations are more common than murder and riots. Law Enforcement has adapted to become much more investigative, as louder crimes become less common.   Fishing in Pimaia is often the most difficult task, given the city's proximity to a colony of Merfolk. Fishermen will have conflicts with Merfolk on the daily, often over stealing fish that were being hunted, or capturing one of a Merfolk's pets. Diplomatic relations are often tensed by these incidents, and fishing has been restricted as a result- But that doesn't stop more insistent individuals from trying.

Infrastructure

Each of the four districts in Pimaia features its own style of buildings and infrastructure:
  • The Elven district is largely covered in forest and parks, with housing and other buildings being integrated into the trees that grow there. The center of the district (Closest to The Spire) features the oldest trees, and are the largest (Therefore the most accommodating). The trees are the closest thing to match the height of the Spire, though even the tallest tree does not cross even half the Spire's height, yet. You'll find that most libraries and centers of learning are in the Elven districts.
  • The Dwarven district is built of simple stone, but expertly smoothed and crafted such that one might not even tell that they weren't in the middle of a mountain, or some alien land where stone was easily shaped by thoughts. The district is often covered in a thin cloud of smoke, as blacksmiths work and forges toil. The center of the district is the place where the air is cleanest.
  • The Human district is build of stone brick and wooden structures, and is where the Market Lane is booming with activity most of the day. Closer to the Center of the district, the houses are built of materials similar to the prior two districts, as nobles pick and choose what aesthetics and luxuries appeal to them best.
  • The general district reflects the Human district in most ways, with a few odd buildings dotting the architectural environment.
  • Farmland stretches outside of Pimaia's walls, and most of the coast along Pimaia's urban center is developed into docks. The urban center is protected by a moderately-sized wall.
