Drakesborough (Dray-ks-bur-owe)

Drakesborough, named the "City of Dragons," is a prosperous metropolis on the East Coast of Kormyr, south of Pimaia and the Surridge mountains. Despite its name, the city appears to have little relation to dragons, only the history that a past king slew a dragon residing in the earth below Drakesborough, before founding the city there. The population being somewhat Dwarven- and Dragonborn-aligned, but with 60% of the population being a mess of all other races, Drakesborough is known to be a very industrial city.

Government

Although little is known about "The Bellowing King," the government is held by a single person known to the public as a "Speaker" for the King. The Speaker makes announcements to the legislation as the Bellowing King commands, and is often elusive unless speaking the word of the King. Despite the risks of Monarchy, much of the population appears satisfied with the rule of the Bellowing King- Or it's speaker, given that no one has ever seen the king before- If they have, they haven't spoken of it.   Law Enforcement is largely dependent on the people - The people decide who becomes a guard, organize, and enforce the laws set by the Bellowing King. The armies are controlled by a Protial General, though Drakesborough's army is largely unused.

Military

Though Drakesborough has lasted long in peace, and its military is not active (Given that the Speaker rarely comes forth with word from the King, and has ordered the Protial General to allow the army to live as citizens in the city until they are needed, most believe that Drakesborough is a very dangerous militant opponent. These fears are well-founded, but not just by the ferocity of their army- Drakesborough Dwarves have invested much into building siege weapons and powerful defenses around the perimeter of the city, with a Wall that more than doubles the size of Pimaia's, equipped with several trap deterrents.   Many who have been in war with Drakesborough also claim that Dragons and Drakes once flew alongside the military of Drakesborough, but as no wars have come up in the past century, those claims have faded to rumor.

Relationships

A competitor in economic success with Pimaia (And the leader in that race), Drakesborough is often seen as a powerful force in the nation of Kormyr, and one not to be taken lightly. They mainly serve in imports, not needing to depend on other cities for resources, as Silver and other metals come from the southern Surridge mountains, and Drakesborough were faster to establish relationships with Merfolk than Pimaia, establishing very successful fishing routes and regulations.   Drakesborough is often the peacekeeper in Kormyr, when necessary. Long-standing wars have been quelled by the hand of the Bellowing King.

Life

The people of Drakesborough are considered very industrious and ambitious - As both Dragonborn and Dwarves are. The people even committed a whole district to blacksmithing and forging, often demonstrating their craftsmanship in competitions and events to spur growth and profit. Those who don't forge or blacksmith will often seek to be great in their own right, whether in authenticity or quality, or both!   More nobles than average do their own part in work and labor, despite their status and wealth.

Infrastructure

Being mostly of Dragonborn and Dwarven population, the buildings of Drakesborough aren't as neatly crafted as a smooth, dwarven stone structure, but are built from very large stone bricks, and wooden accents. Most provoke a sense of power and awe, contrasting golds and greys in their buildings. There is no real "Center" to the city, in that the middle of the city has no indication of a very large or defining building, instead a city center with a large, stone plate marking the middle of the City. This area is reserved only for festivals and movement through the city- Not even markets hold their stalls there unless during events, for rumor that doing so is bad luck.
