Souls
Souls are the inner magical essence of Fae and Humanity. It is a coveted resource by most demons, acting as a common trade item, a form of currency, and occasionally a consumable delicacy.
Humanity as a species only has one type of soul that exists as an intangible "essence" which is considered 'non-condensed' and useless before condensing it into a worthwhile item. Fae souls come in many different types, and are always condensed. However, not all fae have souls and most often the fae with souls are considered more powerful types.
Morbidity can exist with either Cores or souls, and certain types can exist with neither.
Demons as a whole can view and manipulate souls, and view them as a type of internal organ that can be lived without. While Hellionic demons find more value in souls as currency, Choiric angels tend to have no interest or use of souls beyond consuming them.
Occasionally when left non-condensed, humanity souls can mutate into Spirits.
Condensed souls are required to perceive magic actively. A non-meta-touched human with a non-condensed soul is considered 'magic-inept'. Humanity that are magic-inept are unable to perceive or interact with souls.
Full blood humanity cannot be born with a condensed soul, and can only be meta-touched to gain any power or magical ability. If they were born with one, they are, by definition, not human.
Manufacturing process
Condensing a soul involves exposure to non-human power. This is called 'meta-touching' while the soul is still housed, or simply 'condensing' when unhoused.
Fae have the easiest time drawing their own souls forth, and generally have no use for a humans soul except to consume, or play with. Any kind of demon can draw forth and condense any soul, although it is easiest when permission is given. Said permission is usually obtained by a deal or contract, and collected upon the souls' hosts' death.
A common trade item amongst demons. All humans are born with a non-condensed soul. Most Major Fae come into existence with condensed souls, so fae souls are considerably rarer than human souls.
