Jinx OOtA 7- The Labrynth
Our next task is to collect six angel feathers from six different feathers. We were told we could go into one of the entrances to the labrynth to find angels.
We went to one entrance and Eldredge was able to read the runes and sigils that were all about Gnolls, Trolls, and other stuff. We had no reason not to go that way so we did. While we were loitering around sending our familiars ahead to scout, Thorand told me that if I was married I would get some kind of special bonus on rolls. I thought about it for a minute and asked Eldredge if he was interested. I just meant it as a sham marriage for benefits but he took it seriously and was embarrassed which in turn made me feel very embarrassed so I told him I was just kidding.
Thorand said if I devoted myself to Torm, I could get Wisdom saving throw benefits for a day or two so I said, "Sure, that sounds great." But then I had to ask him who Torm was. I thought dwarves all worshipped the Allhammer or something like that. I was really embarrassed at that point so I felt like I had to say yes to becoming devoted to Torm. I kept having to ask Thorand what was expected of me as a devotee of Torm and it didn't sound like much so I did it.
Maybe that's why I survived the dragon.
That's right, the dragon. It was only an ancient red dragon and everybody said that wouldn't be as bad as an ancient black dragon. I wondered how they all knew so much about dragons. I never saw a dragon the entire time that I was on the seas as a pirate.
The very first thing that happened is that, because usually, as the swashbuckling rogue, I run in, hit with Dawnbringer and a +1 magic dagger, then run away, I was the very first one to get seen by his redness. He opened his mouth and spewed out his foul breath and I was hurt. But because I had that Torm blessing thing, I aced my wisdom saving throw and for the first time ever, tried to stay as far away from the monster we were fighting as I could. I feel kind of bad about all those elves and dwarves that had come with us after being freed from the Beholder. Most of them got killed.
I tried to distract the dragon by using minor illusion and my thieves' mirror. The dragon completely ignored me.
All I managed to do is hit him a couple of times with magic missiles. Even Thorand noticed that the dragon swatted at them like stinging flies. I'm usually a big hitter but in this case, I knew I couldn't afford to get close to the dragon. The only person who was as lame as me was Huldir. He's usually a big hitter too with his dwarven hammer but it was Eldredge, Kromdar, and Thorand who got all the glory on killing the red dragon. Eldredge used his numerous Eldritch blasts very effectively. Thorand used spirit guardians and Kromdar actually crit'd with Firebolt of all things, twice!
After the battle was over, I got a magical Broom of Flying. I swore that next time we fought a dragon I would do something!
We were licking our wounds and trying to get a good long rest when we met up with Hemmeth again. We were supposed to be looking for six angel feathers but he told us he could really use our help. Apparently the Duergar King was enthralled by some woman. Everything was falling apart because of her.
By now, we had, apparently, acquired quite a reputation in the underdark. People seemed to think we could do just about anything. If they had only witnessed one of our battles they would know that we were lucky and in between battles we did nothing but tell dirty jokes to relieve the tension.
But when Hemmeth said he could make everybody adamantine armor, well, everybody that could wear armor that is, the dwarves got terribly excited and we headed back towards Gracklestugh or was it Blindingstone? Whatever.
The king knew we were coming and we were invited to a big feast. The lady with him was dressed in nothing but gold coin. It was weird and creepy. I didn't know how to act to a Duergar king so I looked at Thorand since he's the dwarf who seems the most knowledgeable about dwarf like things even though he hates the Drow more than the Duergar.
He nodded at the king so I nodded at him and then nodded to the king. Thorand nodded back at me so I nodded back at him again, twice this time so he would know I 'got' it. But the king wasn't paying any attention to anything but the weird lady dressed in coins.
Thorand did something then that surprised me. He cast a spell that revealed the coin lady was a succubus. He and Eldredge killed her without the king knowing what happened.
The dwarves were reassured that when we came back in three weeks they would have their armor ready for them.
It was a long way back to the labrynth where we would search for the six angels but who knows what will happen before then?
I kind of whined about how everybody was going to get adamantine armor and so Huldir gave me some special armor that will keep me from getting petrified. i think he knows how much that means to me. It was enough to satisfy me.
