Resources Overview
Resources Summary
In this game, managing resources is a critical aspect of maintaining your fleet's operational capability. Each resource serves a distinct purpose and must be carefully balanced to ensure survival and success.
Life Support
Food is a critical resource. While hydroponics can extend food supplies, no technology exists to make food a fully self-sustaining resource during prolonged spaceflight. Ships must manage their food stores carefully, resupplying at stations or through agricultural vessels.
Water is passively maintained through recycling and reclamation using onboard ship systems. Larger ships are equipped with advanced water reclamation technology, keeping water supplies stable over time. However, smaller vessels like fighters and shuttles lack these systems and rely on a limited supply for short-term life support.
Air quality is likewise automatically maintained, barring context and circumstances based issues from an event.
Taken together "Life Support" as a resource is measured as a single entity. Life Support Supplies are measured in Tonnes, and are consumed per cycle, as determined by crew size.
Power
Fusion reactors provide ample electricity for ships, typically exceeding onboard demands. Power shortages are rare and generally occur only in extreme or unconventional scenarios. Power management is not a standard gameplay concern.
Fuel
Fuel is a finite resource consumed when ships travel at Navigation (Nav) speed. Precision Maneuvering — for tactical positioning, docking, or station-keeping — does not consume fuel. Faster-Than-Light (FTL) travel also burns fuel at the same rate as Nav speed. Each ship has a Fuel Consumption score, representing how many tonnes of fuel are consumed per cycle where the vessel is conducting Navigation or FTL travel for any amount of time.
Fabricite / Combat Material Reserve (CMR)
Fabricite, or Combat Material Reserve (CMR) in military jargon, is a refined, multipurpose resource. Created from raw materials aboard supply ships or dockyard facilities, Fabricite is a polymer and metal nano-alloy stored in standardized cubes. It is essential for:
- Ship repairs performed by engineers
- Ammunition fabrication
- Building ship components, technology, and infrastructure
- Constructing fighters, capital ships, and infantry equipment
Most large ships have facilities to manufacture CMR from raw materials at a small scale, for things like renewing ammunition stocks and basic ongoing maintanence.
Raw Materials
Raw materials include ores, metals, and gas elements. They are harvested from asteroids, planets, or other celestial bodies. Support ships and specialized scouts convert raw materials into Fabricite using onboard industrial refineries.
Rare Elements
Rare Elements are not commonly tracked as a resource. Instead, they serve as narrative or plot-driven materials. These exceptional resources are often used to craft unique items, create experimental technologies, or complete critical story objectives.
