Before Ascension Era

History

Everything that is known about the world before Ascension has been learned from either The Sovereign or through relics and ruins discovered by historians and others. Currently, no documents, articles, or other recordings have been found which describe the past. Even in ruined cathedrals and archives, no text can be found leading many to believe that the old world may have lost all its recorded history in some catastrophic event. One leading theory is that The Eminarch may have purged everything in order to cleanse his own record when it became clear to him that he was about to lose his power during Ascension.

Reign of Terror

Though The Sovereign keep many things to themselves about the old world, one thing they have been abundantly clear about is that The Eminarch ruled with terror at his right side and manipulation at his left. All the people of Illyria suffered under his reign, and many lost their lives and personal freedoms. Such was the power of The Eminarch that he could manipulate entire continents worth of people at once, controlling each individually to do his bidding. Legend says that this widescale mind control was what prompted The Sovereign to choose their name; so that they may stand as a symbol of hope and resistance to the demonic force of The Eminarch.
