Golden Moose of the Otona Mountains
Description
The Golden Moose is a true goliath standing at around 3 meters at the shoulder , its thick fur is yellowish brown with dark brown fur fading from its head down its neck. Its topaz yellow eyes are slightly larger in comparison to a regular moose and their bellowing vocalizations can be heard from miles further away.
Behaviour
One of the more unique characteristics of the Golden Moose its incredibly passive nature towards humans which make them a very favoured pet among the children of nobility. To own one is considered highly prestigious as they are both high maintenance and require a lot of land. While they make near-excellent mounts for caravans and personal transport , they are fairly skittish in largescale combat and are usually too expensive to be used as a long-term cavalry.
In the wild Golden Moose have a small and slightly declining population of roughly 30,000. Usually they are found alone or in small herds of up to 5 adult members.
Diet
Golden Moose are mostly obligate herbivores usually eating grass, ferns, evergreen, saplings and leaves. Only very occasionally eating dried bones and salt rocks for minerals.
Predation
While local predators like Cave Bears, Goblins and Dire Wolves are capable of taking them down most wont risk it unless starving hungry as a full charge from an adult Golden Moose will often result in death or serious injury. The only species with continued skill are Human poachers who hunt large numbers ignoring the fact that hunting a golden moose is illegal and punishable by severe public lashing and having thief branded on the neck. All wild Golden Moose are technically property of the king and can only be hunted with written consent from the king, queen or their steward, unless it is deemed a threat to local townships and villages. With the full corpse being delivered to the royal kitchens after.
